The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Welcome Tyreece Simpson

Thing is he’s 21, so hardly the finished article. This could be the spring board he needs to really kick on. Scored nearly double the goals at Swindon than Bowie did last season in 10 games less and as many as Appere in nearly half the amount of games. In fact nearly 1 in 2 and that was at the age of 19. This lads no half job.
Not disagreeing with you and only reporting what the supporters of Huddersfield have said when I've asked their opinion. Interesting that Nocker has said that he has all of the tools and just needs the will and desire. I, as much as anyone want him to be successful and score plenty of goals for us. The only downside is that his goals came in League 2 where he has mainly played so hopefully he will be able to step up.

Spoke to a few of the Huddersfield fans up here about Simpson. All agree that he has a great turn of pace, strong and hard to knock off the ball but not very prolific which is why he couldn't get in the team. One said, he gets into the box but forgets what to do when he gets there. They all reckon he could do a job for us in League 1 which hopefully he will.

The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Supporters Trust withdraws bid for ACV Land at Sixfields

Agree with Fez. We will need a fully functioning Trust.
If the JR goes the way Cilldara thinks it will, the club is going to be in a very precarious position. The owners might just upsticks and leave and if they do, we are seriously looking at the end. I'm not sure I'd be happy with watching AFC Northampton due to the actions of some. When the dust settles, the whole thing needs looking at, including how so few could make so many decisions on behalf of the supporter base.

Hi, because at the minute they are in the box seat, the council have barely acknowledged our bid and has obviously caused them and the club a problem or two.
The council seem very keen to work with KT and deliver something with little benefit to the town or club - that is what i am bringing notice to
I really really really wish we could show plans, have something in place as you describe above but the fans, council and club don't seem to show any signs of interest.
I mean who and why at the council thought it was a good idea to give David Cardoza a 125 year lease on prime(ish) land around sixfields, land that included the tip that they run and proudly state is the most visited venue in Northampton !!!!!
And it has gotten worse ever since
So you've got Ł3m quid in the bank and you don't know what you are going to do with it? Trying hard to see how that's a viable alternative.

I managed to upset Paul Lewis' dad in the queue for transfer to my hotel in Portugal. I told him he wasn't the worst player we've ever had and he muttered but not your best!! Even my wife thought I was disrespectful!!

Bobby Madley - he presented Boy Bingers with his Level 7 Referee certificate and three lions badge earlier on this year. He had some good stories to tell. Let's hope I still have a good opinion of him in a weeks time.
I remember when he started out in our Saturday league. He and his brother used to get some grief. He let me off a few times with some questionable forwards tackles so couldn't have been all bad. When I was coaching he used to put the refs perspective over on CPD events and was very always seemed to be a good bloke. Let's hope he gets the big decisions right in this game.

I think there have been many missed opportunities in the past that may or may not have enabled the club to progress. I haven't seen anything in the past that has made me think that we could fill a 12,000 capacity ground in the present. We talk of building the capacity now but all we'd see are empty seats. Remember the visits to the Reynolds Arena? In reply to Coolcat, of course it is a city, we have a cathedral!! I'm surprised you went out in Ponte Carlo and missed the delights of the Merrie City.

Sorry Wakey, don't mean to be picky but when you say Wakefield has a population of 330,000 this refers to a vast administrative area which includes five other towns such as Castleford etc.
Like the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan which claims a population of around half a million, both the towns Wigan and Wakefield are actually less than half the size of Northampton. Its these census figures which refer to admin areas being popped about that leads so many people to regard their home town as relatively insignificant although judging by the state of the town center they could easily be forgiven for thinking this.
Of course people could argue forever about catchment areas and claim that Wigan has therefore catchment area equivalent to it's admin area but the counter to this is that their ground and Boltons are only a handful of miles apart.
I reckon Beds is about right with his 300,000 catchment area estimate but as has been said before it will need a sustained period of success to be able to tap into this by any degree,
I get your point but the 5 towns refer to Pontefract, Castleford, Knottingley, Featherstone and Normanton. Of these, only Pontefract has a team in the NPL. Cas and Fev are rugby towns and Knottingley and Normanton are the size of Desborough if that. I'm from Wellingborough so I travelled 10 miles to watch the Cobblers. If Wakefield offered league football, those living in the 5 towns would travel less than 5. Wakefield is the biggest city without a league football team and will continue to be for a long time. It's not just Northampton that has a crap town centre though, you should see ours!!

It's an interesting debate around catchment areas. Wakefield has a population of around 330k and has never had a professional football team. When people ask where I live they say comment on it being a big rugby city. They say the same thing thing when I say I support Northampton. In the 20 odd years I've lived here, there have been a few attempts to build a club for Wakefield. The current guise is headed by former player Chris Turner and is backed by American money. They are currently playing in the Sheffield and Hallamshire league and use Featherstone Rugby ground. I can't see them progressing any higher than the NPL in the next 20 years as I don't believe there is a big enough appetite for football in Wakefield that could compete with Leeds, Huddersfield and Barnsley. The already established NPL teams have their dedicated support which suffers when those teams are at home. Although the Cobblers has an exclusive catchment area, football has changed and is more accessible than ever. Coupled with out of town stadiums that are a bitch to park at, the days of supporting your team because you live in the shadow of the stand are pretty much gone. TV coverage has allowed more of the younger generation to support a team that they can watch at home no matter where the team is based. I'd love to travel down to Sixfields and watch us in our 25000 capacity stadium in the Championship but that probably won't happen in my time and nothing has changed since my first game in 1981.

Not sure why if you live in Wakefield, you wouldn't make the short hop to Bradford. Had you done so, one of the worst refereeing performances, aided by one of the dirtiest sides in a long, long while were on display! Having had time to calm down and take pause for thought, I've come to the conclusion that the majority of Bradford City players, as well as the referee and 4th official are collectively...utter c***s!
I would normally make the short hop but this was a long standing commitment prior to the fixtures being released. It just happened to be on the same day as the Cobblers fixture. It's good you were able to come to that conclusion after a period of reflection! I have been to VP a few times and might lump some of their fans into that category. Especially after the fire anniversary and their pitch invasion.

I went to the new York City stadium on Saturday to watch Kettering. The refereeing in that game is some of the worst I've seen in a while. The Kettering forward was literally pushed over in the box and the ref booked him for diving!! I think every decision went against Kettering and the linesman was just as bad. It seems I missed a similar display at VP.

My Father in Law is a big Poppies fan and said that Dyche was a good player for them. I know that's a lower league but at least he was getting games. As for Kabamba, the first time I have seen him play was at Salford and that was enough for me to decide that he is awful. His only shot was so wild he nearly killed someone in the home end. The only entertainment he gives the faithful is the catchy chant. Hopefully he will be injured for Saturdays game at the Pools.

Club support is a hot topic in our house. I support the cobblers, my son supports Man Utd and my daughter supports Leeds United. To say it costs a fortune is an understatement! I have to be a member at Old Trafford so I can take my son to a few games a season, before Leeds got in the Prem we could get free tickets as my daughter plays in the girls academy but that's not so easy now. They both come with me sometimes when I go and watch the Town. I think clubs like Salford will always struggle with getting a good crowd, especially when Man Utd are at home. I sometimes go and watch Ossett United in the NPL and if Leeds are at home then you can knock quite a few off the attendance.

Racism has no place in society which I'm sure we all agree on. My issue with the knee taking pretty much stems back to the BLM marches where they were screaming at everyone including the police to get on their knees. I can't support that but wouldn't boo anyone for it. I preferred the kick it out campaign and the majority supported that. Never heard anyone being booed for wearing the t-shirts.

Some people like to accept mediocrity when that is the norm and they believe Curle is the right man for the job. Curle is a one dimensional manager without the necessary know how to get us out of this situation. Whilst he managed to get us promoted by bullying Cheltenham and Exeter, he has come up well short against teams who are able to play football. If last season had got to it's natural conclusion, we would have finished in the bottom 10. He said we would evolve our playing style but to me that is called progression and at the moment we are going from bad to worse, not evolving.

Having just watched the "highlights" of the Crewe game it would appear that we were absolute dross. Curle must be on borrowed time. As many have said, it's not just about results, the style of football is about as basic as it gets. We will go down with him at the helm.
