Very poor. McWilliams distribution is dire quite a lot of the time. Bogle is what we are missing up front, much more strength that Apere. Think Sowerby needed on the pitch but not sure that’s going to get us a goal. This passing around at the back is costing us again! Understand why we are trying to keep possession as we have no real target man but we then seem to lose possession when we try to move over the halfway line. Brady has no real options off the bench, he must now surely realise we need another attacking option. As for goal really poor from the defence. Burge had kept in this game, just.

I thought Jon stated recently that they had been travelling the country looking at targets, I could be wrong but I think the only addition since that statement has been Eppiah?

Agree with B&S I am not convinced Apere is going to come good especially with balls just hoofed forward, he clearly has some skill with the ball on the ground but at present he is ineffective. Bowie did ok yesterday but lacks experience. Hylton still to demonstrate he can still do it and Eppiah, well we will have to wait and see. That doesn’t give us too many striking options. What Doncaster did well was use Miller as a focal point to bring players like Tomlin into the game. We rarely did anything with our forward balls that were lofted as we had no one on the pitch to win a header.

Hoskins had a poor game with aimless free kicks and struggled to get involved, however given his recent performances I understood why Brady left him on. Apere needs to start performing, Bowie had the better performance today and Hylton has done nothing to impress aside from that pass in the first game of the season. Magloire performing better but Kolki still not to last seasons standard.

I must admit I was never a big fan of Sam but he has won me over with his performances last season and this. He has become far more consistent. Never doubted his effort and commitment but the product on the pitch is much improved.

Pretty poor first half, lose passes and no real attacking threat. Maxted just doesn’t inspire confidence either. Bowie had some good involvement but aside from one good pass to Kolki his passes were often astray. Apere had a good game but no real support. We improved after the substitutions but Wycombe deserved the win.

As I said after the WBA game, the loss of Horsfall seems to have impacted Guthrie, wonder if that defensive partnership last year was a case of ‘the dime of the parts being greater than the whole’ and not just defensively from an attacking perspective too.

West Stand OAP makes a very good point. I had never analysed the detail but I think we all knew the situation. Teams would have feared both Guthrie and Horsfall in the box as both were capable of scoring whereas we don’t know if the situation will be the same with the new pairing, if one of the Central defence is not as dangerous it makes it easier for the opposition to cancel out the other. Not seen the new goalkeeper but Maxted is likely to cost us points rather than save them (he reminds me of Cornell, can make a good save but there’s alwAys a mistake or two in him every game). We all know that without Roberts in goal we would have been a mid table side. Finally the attack. I felt it was reminiscent of many games last season, trying to play it across the back and keep possession but then floating it forward rather than using the midfield. This makes the strikers role much harder, be it Hylton, Apere or Bowie. It’s too early to say anything about team members but in that game in isolation it was evident that we need further personnel and much more work on our system of play.

As already said Guthrie looked ok but didn’t seem as assured without Horsfall. McWilliams played well and Sowerby did ok too. Odomayo started ok but faded as game wore on. Appete showed some nice touches and fed Pinnick with a chance where we were unlucky not to score. Aside from that we looked poor. Maxted a liability, could easily have cost us a further two goals. No sign of any playmaker midfielder which left the strikers feeding off scraps. Think Hilton touched the ball 3 or 4 times and missed a good chance. Hoskins ran around a lot and again failed to beat the first man with his corner. Crying out for an Eppiah style player, don’t see any flair in that team. Admittedly we won’t be playing a Championship side each week and it was just a friendly but I was expecting a better showing than that
