21  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Craig King on: December 05, 2010, 22:46:31 pm
A striker not wanted by a mediocre Championship club is hardly likely to set L2 alight. I'd rather see Courtney get an opportunity.
22  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Northamptonshire Football on: December 05, 2010, 22:43:59 pm
It wouldn't increase the gates. The comparison with Saints doesn't work because if you are a rugby fan in, say, Suffolk or Norfolk, the Saints is your 'local' professional club. R & D are struggling to attract 1,000 for home games, same for Kettering. How many of those would bother to travel to Sixfields to watch Northamptonshire FC. The only way to increase the gates is to rise up the table and through the divisions. If a billionaire arrived tomorrow he could achieve this through NTFC as easily as through an amalgamated club. If no knight in shining armour arrives it won't happen, regardless of our name or amalgamations.
23  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Groundstaff. on: December 04, 2010, 20:42:18 pm
I for one thought it would be off and clearly the club did late on Friday. Congratulations to the club's staff for their hard work. Let's praise them instead of moaning about the programme. The latter is for trainspotters only. Most of the contents has either been on the internet already, or local radio. anyway. I'd rather the club concentrated its money on getting the game staged than on a £3 glossy magazine.
24  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Stockport... on: December 02, 2010, 22:08:28 pm
It will surely also depend on Stockport being able to get down safely. I think that the match is unlikely to go ahead unless there is a dramatic change in the weather tomorrow (which is not expected).
25  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Sheffield Away (Part 1) on: November 23, 2010, 19:45:53 pm
Why wasn't the keeper sent off? From the official site:
"a moment of real controversy moments later when home keeper Annerson was only booked for handling the ball outside the area. Those fans who have seen some of the red cards issued to the Cobblers in the last few weeks would have been surprised at the decision given that Craig King was about to take the ball away from the keeper and head on towards goal."
26  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Osman appeal lodged on: November 16, 2010, 18:39:49 pm
So now we know for sure: the FA speak Double Dutch. They are saying he should not have been sent off but are cheering up the ref by keeping the red card on record. A bit like deciding that a killer is innocent, should be released from prison immediately, but that his criminal record will remain. What a load of Cobblers!
27  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Mighty Vale vs The Wobblers on: November 13, 2010, 17:39:08 pm
Still, as someone has already noted, nothing like a moment of controversy to get the Cobblers fans making noise. It was always the same at the old County Ground.
28  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Striker signing on loan this afternoon..... on: November 13, 2010, 17:35:08 pm
Good player but dived far too much. His penalty miss at Mansfield in the play offs is hard to forget, on a night when we deserved to progress.
29  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Weston Favell Centre on: November 07, 2010, 20:37:17 pm
Wouldn't the week before have been a better idea, when kids were on half-term?
30  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: FA CUP 2nd round it's .... The Owls on: November 07, 2010, 16:56:41 pm
SingCobb: I thought that was Sheffield United, not Wednesday.
31  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: FA Cup Memories on: November 07, 2010, 16:55:22 pm
Replay against Gillingham with 17 year old Belfon coming off the bench to score twice. It gave us a home tie against the then European Cup holders. Cracking atmosphere at the County Ground that night.
32  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: FA Cup Memories on: November 06, 2010, 19:17:06 pm
FA Cup ties had a real magic about them. Hard to believe how much was lost by Man United not entering the competition that one year. It's never been quite the same since. At least not for me, and gates have dramatically dipped. Home ties against Rugby and Telford with a packed Spion Kop. Both ended in draws. An away tie at Brentford - Adie Mann's debut? Villa at home was great. Somehow for me the magic has lessened - middle age, or something else?
33  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Car parts on: November 03, 2010, 19:53:44 pm
What would you give Dunn, an estate car which spills its diesel?
34  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Barnet away on: November 03, 2010, 19:52:24 pm
It's about time we won there. I can only recall seeing one league win there, in Atkins's first season.
35  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Thread of its own: Cobblers and Saints on: November 03, 2010, 19:51:06 pm
I'd say that Bedford is a cricket town as its predominantly Asian population has little interest in football or egg-chasing.
36  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Car parts on: November 03, 2010, 19:46:26 pm
That's typical PR for you, Ted; I thought you'd approve.
37  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Billy McKay. on: November 03, 2010, 19:45:29 pm
Our opening goal came from a rebound off the post after a McKay shot so he can't be accused of not being involved in goals.
38  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: What a turnaround on: November 02, 2010, 22:57:31 pm
This four day bonanza needs to become a long unbeaten run. Hopefully the performances of Gilligan and Guinan tonight will quieten a few of the boo-boys.
39  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Lincoln City V Northampton...and its LIVE!!! on: November 02, 2010, 21:52:19 pm
Congratulations to the 217 hardy souls who made it up there. I asked the Chron guy on the live commentary whether we could repeat last season's great run:
[Comment From Rodders]
I asked earlier if you think we are capable of a good run like last season. What do you think?

Jefferson Lake:
Definitely. The spine of the team (well, midfield and defence) all of a sudden looks very solid. Having Beckwith back has been huge.
40  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Lincoln City V Northampton...and its LIVE!!! on: November 02, 2010, 20:43:33 pm
Strong wind was in our favour first half. We'll probably need a second (goal, not half).
