Fan power (and Fergie power) has resulted in penalties being given for years at Old Trafford, but only to the team in red.

Of course they wouldn't. People are more obssessed than ever before with success, at all costs. Look at the differences in gates between Prem rugby and the second tier; in football the gap is between the Championship and League 1.

The one player you don't want to bring on when there is a real battle to be fought is Thornton, particularly as he was sulking from not making the starting eleven. We won, so what is the problem?

There are lots of Saints fans here in Suffolk. It's a huge catchment area. At the same time ours has shrunk with the emergence of MK Dons. I'm sure that a large % of Saints' support comes from outside the town - cue train hordes making their way up - whereas we have a decent fanbase in Northampton. However, it's clear that many sports fans want to watch top-flight sport in a top-class venue and we cannot offer either of these for the moment. Back in 86-87 season our gates were far bigger than the Saints. It simply needs a successful side to bring out the extra 'fans'. There are some people who watch both Saints and the Cobblers - like Ted - but the vast majority are one or the other. I can't stand rugby, or the public school braying which goes with it, but the Saints are a well organised club so good luck to them. I'm only concerned by our own future. We have to be patient as fans. It often takes a good manager years to mould a succeesful squad. We will get there if we stay patient, but not by sacking managers every year.

With Hall filling in well, and Beckwith and Hinton available again, I'd rather get a striker in.
86  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Sammo critic amnesty on: October 30, 2010, 19:42:22 pm
Well-earned victory, hope Sammo enjoys his weekend. (Still reeling from the revelation that the Sun-reader Ted is married!)
87  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: What a turnaround on: October 30, 2010, 18:13:50 pm
You have to be able to 'win ugly' in this division. Sammo put out a side to do that today. Congratulations to him and the players.

When he's not on-form it's like playing with ten men, a luxury we cannot afford.
89  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The 'Clare Balding' Gillingham POTS on: October 30, 2010, 18:10:25 pm
Beckwith.
90  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Thornton on: October 30, 2010, 18:07:11 pm
He's a luxury we cannot afford, not fit, and I still think that a leopard doesn't change its spots.
91  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Gillingham - LIVE on: October 30, 2010, 18:04:26 pm
'shame he has a chronic knee problem'
If Leon didn't have the problem we wouldn't have been able to sign him!
92  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: I miss....... on: October 29, 2010, 17:07:54 pm
It seems both strange and offensive to describe fellow supporters as 'retards'.
93  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: I miss....... on: October 29, 2010, 17:05:29 pm
Apart from a bit of respect. Our best goalscorer - statistics show - since we left the County Ground. What's wrong with a round of applause before the match, followed by getting behind our own side?
94  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: I miss....... on: October 29, 2010, 16:53:56 pm
McGleish 43 in 120. Then I think that makes Bayo our most successful goals per game striker since the County Ground, doesn't it?
95  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: I miss....... on: October 29, 2010, 16:51:40 pm
Better correct myself: JF 39 goals in 112 league matches; Bayo 37 in 88! Perhaps McGleish had a better record...
96  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: I miss....... on: October 29, 2010, 16:48:18 pm
No, because he did **** all else. Bayo scored plenty of goals for us and I guess that his goal/games ratio is better than anyone else bar Forrester since we moved to Sixfields. (I'm happy to be corrected if this is wrong!)
97  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Jamie Forrester's blog on: October 29, 2010, 16:44:19 pm
The look on the Cambridge keeper's face as Gabbiadini's shot comes back off the bar is priceless.
98  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Jamie Forrester's blog on: October 29, 2010, 16:36:56 pm
They always looked better when Howard played with them...another good player slagged off by so many Cobblers fans until it was too late and he was off to Luton.
99  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Home v Gills on: October 29, 2010, 16:34:49 pm
Jacko unavailable...and this time the injury wasn't faked.

I would have thought his two goals at Bolton which provided us with an away win against a Premiership club push him towards being a legend. Also that he was so well loved by the fans. Not quite in the Grayson cult mode, but not far off.
