Were his actions that bad? - looking at the footage several times I’m not so sure - it was an occasion full of emotion with people hugging and kissing - she didn’t pull away and even gave him a little tap on the side after the kiss - sure, to kiss someone uninvited on the lips is not correct and definitely unwise but surely a simple apology after the event would have been sufficient -  calling it sexual assault and ruining a person’s career seems disproportional.

Couldn’t disagree more. Thankfully in this day and age in any workplace or anywhere for that matter, if someone especially in a position of authority decides to plant an unsolicited kiss on someone’s lips it’s completely unacceptable and in Spain illegal. You say surely an apology would have been sufficient but we will never know as he hasn’t even shown the smallest modicum of contrition. It says everything about this guy that he still thinks his behaviour is totally acceptable and I won’t lose any sleep over his demise. I feel more more sympathy for the Spanish players who have had their greatest achievement spoilt and tainted by the actions of this lecherous creep.

Exeter lost their star player to big money which allowed them to take him, I'm not too surprised by that giving them the edge.
Would people have been happy if we'd sold Hoskins or even Pinnock and brought in Muskwe in loan as a replacement?

Edit: They've also been linked to Nicke Kabamba, which might actually be a worse signing than us actually having brought Tete Yengi back.

Just imagine!
103  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The Rise of Sam Hoskins on: August 31, 2023, 12:00:25 pm
It’s not moaning it having an option on why this has been announced just before the transfer window closes.

Had we not one the last couple then maybe, but the team is looking competitive and I wouldn’t think there would be any need for that type of stunt.
104  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer Transfer Window 2023 on: August 30, 2023, 07:09:11 am
Morton has scored 2 in his last 55 games in all competitions, zero in his past 28. Might explain why he’s not making their squad.

I don’t know if we were ever seriously interested in bringing him back the last time we got promoted, but certainly seems like we dodged a bullet if we were.

Despite the poor strike rate I think I would still take a chance on him. I don’t know if the injuries have taken a toll but I thought his work ethic and pressing was great and he seems a real Brady type of player, much more than what I’ve seen from Simpson so far. He’s still surely too young to write off completely and if we would get anything near the great player we had before he would be an amazing asset.
105  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Cheltenham Away (26th August) on: August 28, 2023, 13:20:12 pm
You know I don't keep up with as many threads as I'd like but I don't recall anybody predicting relegation. Nobody at all. Can you point me in their direction?

There were definitely posts that suggested our budget didn’t just mean this season could be a struggle but it guaranteed a return to league 2.
106  General Category / General Chat / Re: Woke on: August 25, 2023, 19:51:44 pm
Well that might just be one of the worst pieces of journalism I’ve had the misfortune to read. Decades ago the word woke came about to describe critical thinking but now is anything but. A cringeworthy badge of honour for the left while weaponised as a socialist bogeyman by the right, both missing the point by so much it’s embarrassing.
107  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Supporter Analogy on: August 06, 2023, 17:00:04 pm
I bet whosoever you are alluding to could point to many of their posts where they have provided balance, I know I could but sadly the protagonists ignore those. When we lose, like yesterday, people look for someone to blame it on. If they are one of the "happy clappers" they can't blame the manager or a player, so they'll turn on someone else and if a person has had the temerity to suggest we were going to lose, well, there you go, you've found your target.

Note: I didn't see a single person predict we were going to lose yesterday so there's no "I told you so's" to be seen.

Wasn’t particularly aimed at anyone, just many years on here going back to when one poster used to be on Ryan Gilligan’s back constantly. I’ve done it myself with odd players but personally believe getting hung up on one player or issue isn’t a healthy way to support a football club. I’m sure in the past when I’ve posted about a problem I saw, like your analogy I believed it to be a constructive critique when in reality it easily can become pretty myopic and constantly ramming the same negative points down people’s throats becomes tiresome quickly.
It’s fine to discuss why we have lost a particular game, but when that reason is always the same reason it becomes noticeable. When a poster’s comments about a particular player are always negative (apologies Ryan Edmondson!). Like I said just a bit of balance makes a world of difference.
108  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Supporter Analogy on: August 06, 2023, 14:24:33 pm

Can we please stop this nonsense? We ALL want the Cobblers to win every time they play. Worrying about whether we will is just showing concern, not disloyalty.

Concern is fine, but when there’s no balance and pretty much all posts are negative and the person takes every opportunity to repetitively bang home the same points time and time again it gets fücking tedious. I get why others might think they want the team to lose as they disappear during times of success or if their scapegoat has had a good game only to return when fortunes change with the same negative rhetoric.
Sometimes just an odd bit of balance would work wonders to perception.

Love it will be my first shirt in a long while.
110  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer Transfer Window 2023 on: July 25, 2023, 18:37:54 pm
Strange how everyone seems to be predicting Stevenage, the side that finished above us last year and have strengthened with genuine league 1 quality will finish below us.

Is that the only issue you have with it! so is your prediction 24th?

They have us finishing 11 places below Exeter, no chance FACT
111  General Category / General Chat / Re: Black Mirror on: July 25, 2023, 14:35:54 pm
I see BBC journalists are now asking completely inappropriate questions at the women’s World Cup.
112  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer Transfer Window 2023 on: July 25, 2023, 14:19:48 pm
Imagine a triple signing of those three. It would be like the day we announced Gabbiadini, Forrester and Hargreaves all over again!  Well, maybe not quite...

Wasn’t it very soon after that we nearly ended up bankrupt and ended up with Ellis at the club?
113  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer Transfer Window 2023 on: July 24, 2023, 13:46:55 pm
we need an out and out striker with that added bit of quality and intelligence, who's going to be in and around the 20 goal mark.

Not easy to get hold of however, so don't ask me where to find one Grin

Unless you’ve got crazy stupid money to spend then it’s a mixture of good recruiting and a lot of luck. There was a lot of moaning at the signing of Oliver and Morton and although they didn’t score that many goals, during the run in as a pair they were unplayable and I would have loved to have seen what happened had we been able to keep them the next season.
114  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer Transfer Window 2023 on: July 20, 2023, 11:43:50 am
Can’t we have a separate thread where people can moan about the budget as much as they like and leave this one to transfer rumours, it’s getting way beyond tedious now for the same repetitive stuff to be bought back up time and time again.
115  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer Transfer Window 2023 on: July 18, 2023, 13:12:49 pm
Now that we are in League 1, have a steady and widely admired management team, are on the way up (on the pitch) and have a well earned reputation for honouring our debts (post the previous owner's fiasco) you'd think we were a near ideal outcome for any up and coming professional looking to play man's football as opposed to Under 23's, no real competition football. We're close to London and Birmingham so no major upheaval required. We can offer a decent run at a genuinely competitive level that could be beneficial all round e.g. Leonard, Etete, Grimes et al.

Let's use the Loans market again.

On the other hand the town itself is awful!.
116  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer Transfer Window 2023 on: July 18, 2023, 07:17:01 am
Brady signed up a team of League 2 players, which would have been a good move had we stayed there. Unfortunately, we are now in League 1. One can only imagine they thought we'd be playing in league 2 again and have been caught on the hop so to speak.

I find it a bit patronising to call are squad league 2 players considering they got promoted from that division and proved they were too good for it. I keep hearing talk of signing league 1 players, as we don’t have the funds to pay the fees to those under contract are we talking about those released by league one clubs? and deemed by their club not good enough for the division. Hylton came from a championship club last year, transfers are far more nuisances than just where a player might have played in the past.
117  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer Transfer Window 2023 on: July 17, 2023, 13:35:53 pm
I don't see why no-one wants owners to spend big. If they spend big we could get to Championship and not many of the fans have ever seen that. It is not my cash or your cash so we are not to lose if it goes bad. Only the owners.

I don’t anyone has a problem with owners spending big if they want to, the issue is if there is an expectation that they should. If there is an expectation at our club then it’s only right for  to have the same at all other clubs, creating this spiral where all clubs are no better off against each other but instead of trying to break even they are all running way beyond their means. This is fine when the owners cover these losses but somewhere it’s going to end in tears, wages not being paid, inland revenue not paid and administration. This was why budget caps were bought in by the league but looking at the debt levels of many clubs I’m not convinced it’s been successful.
118  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer Transfer Window 2023 on: July 16, 2023, 16:11:47 pm
I refer you to the Luton model
Not nonsense
They were below us when we won league two..,
Now look at us.
We have a massive catchment area.

It’s not nonsense.

When we are in trouble and in danger of going bust the only thing that will resonate with potential purchasers is our catchment area.
There is loads of untapped potential.

What exactly is the ‘Luton model’ pick the one team that is punching way above their weight and say we should be doing the same, previous known as the ‘Sc***horpe model’ and the ‘Yeovil model’ when those teams were in the championship.

I would love to believe there is actually untapped potential but there needs to be some sort of evidence that the big catchment area can actually correspond to increased attendances. We’ve won league titles, had many promotions and trips to Wembley, with most clubs with potential this would have resulted in numerous sellouts with the size of our ground but not us. There will be a new owner at some stage so let’s just see what happens with regards to our attendances.

Establishing yourself in a division is nonsense and meaningless, it didn’t matter how long Accrington had been in league 1 it was always just a matter of time before they were relegated back to league 2. You can only punch above your weight for so long.
119  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer Transfer Window 2023 on: July 16, 2023, 14:27:14 pm
That is a very fair point and I can understand your viewpoint.
My standpoint is it isn’t the first time the current board have been in this position and by their own admission have said the club will struggle to compete at this level without extra investment.
Lessons must be learnt or we will never progress under the current ownership without a bit of help.
Is it fair under the current circumstances to say the current owners have taken us as far as they can?

Our support level which correlates to gate receipts and then budget mean next season could well be a struggle. The likes of Accrington hovering around the play offs for years and Yeovil achieving promotion have shown that money isn’t everything though. We even proved that with the Chinese money being spent to no success.

Again you talk about ‘investment’ which I assume is a benefactor willing to spend a huge chunk of their money to bridge the gap to the better supported clubs in the division, as any returns are only potential ones on the pitch as there will be no financial ones.

Say we did stay up what next season, what next? Look to bridge the gap again with another big chunk of money spent to increase the budget. Before anyone mentions the nonsense football cliche of ‘establishing yourself in the division’, the length of contracts and good players being able to be taken by bigger clubs means you can be in a particular league for a number of years but be one poor transfer window from relegation. It’s just not sustainable look at Wigan, R&D there are only so many years that rich benefactors will prop up a teams budget to make them competitive before the whole thing implodes.
120  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer Transfer Window 2023 on: July 16, 2023, 11:56:17 am
I’ve not decided to finance a football club
You haven’t decided to finance a football club
David bower has decided to finance a football club.

You do realise that there is a big difference between owning a football club and supporting a football club don’t you??

I’m not sure…

I would have used the word ‘run’ instead of ‘finance’ a football club. I think it’s much healthier for football especially in the lower leagues to try and run on a break even basis. Despite rules meant to stop it many clubs have run up massive debts and this only seems to spiral with constant demands for success. If Bower wants to spunk away a load of his own money on the team (or as you say ‘invest’) then I would be more than happy but the difference is this isn’t something I demand as I’ve seen the potential pitfalls in the past.
