81  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Vale Away 10th Dec on: December 13, 2016, 12:38:09 pm
which football league team do you play for?

Literally doesn't matter - I play for one of the Loughborough University teams. I also have the FA Goalkeeper Coaching Level 1 and 2 badges and coach for Loughborough Dynamo youth teams, their senior team is in the Northern Premier D1 South.

Not saying I know absolutely everything or have played at the highest level, but I think I know a fair bit about it, and in my opinion Cornell made an error/potentially wasn't brave enough to stop that goal after Taylor's weak tackle.

I'm just saying there is no point in covering the near post if you do it so obviously that you get beaten at the far post every time. Not that i'm saying Cornell does every time, just in this one instance.
82  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Vale Away 10th Dec on: December 13, 2016, 11:35:26 am
He covered his near post which is correct. Ask any goal keeper on here.

I am a goalkeeper  Roll Eyes

Your first job is to stop the ball, by any means necessary, it's so clear that he's covering the near post that he's left a huge gap for the ball to go into the other corner
83  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Vale Away 10th Dec on: December 12, 2016, 13:46:00 pm
He covered his near post which is correct! - what he did not have is have the flexibility or reaction a la Smith to deflect the ball. Not sure if the last comment is fair or even correct. Depends what the experts on here think.

Covering the near post isn't correct... saving the ball is correct.

There's absolutely zero point covering the near post if the ball goes in the opposite corner. His positioning for this goal is poor, don't think he's a bad keeper, but for me that was just as bad as dropping a howler, it contributed to conceding an avoidable goal
84  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Port Vale Forum Pre Match Interview / Report vrs Northampton on: December 04, 2016, 23:27:15 pm
1. Tell us a bit about yourself & history as a fan?

Adam, 21, student at Loughborough University.

First game was Mansfield (H) 2003, lost 3-0. Can't remember a lot about it to be honest. Started going regularly in around 2009. Even in a relatively short time supporting the club you'd probably be surprised with the ups and downs that come with following the Cobblers.

Highlights:
- Beating Liverpool on penalties in front of the Kop at Anfield 2010 with one of the worst looking teams on paper we have probably ever had
- Last season's heroics and 31 game unbeaten run, and moments of magic along the way, Ricky Holmes' wonder goals away at Orient and Stevenage as well as Wilder's rally call after the win against Notts County

Lowlights
- David Cardoza & All off field activity from last season
- Gary Johnson
- Aidy Boothroyd starting Clive Platt in the playoff final 2013

2. How do you expect your team to do this season (including a forecast for a positional finish for the entire season)?

To be honest i'd be happy with consolidation this season, some supporters seem to think we should be performing a lot better than we are. But we really are a team that runs on form. If we can build a little run then I think there's potential for us to sneak into the final playoff spot. If I had to put a position down i'd say 12th.

3. What are your thoughts on your manager and his signings this season & who should we watch out for (danger players)?

A manager Vale fans will know well... Page promised not to make wide scale changes and support the team which won the league so comfortably last season, despite us only being the second best team. Our starting line up in recent weeks has only really had 2 or 3 of the winning team, Richards, Hoskins and Buchanan.

Page has brought in a large number of new signings. Replacing Holmes was always going to be difficult however this gap still hasn't quite been filled.

Watch out for Matty Taylor's free kicks and Sam Hoskins has begun to show some promise that he could be the man to step up as a match winner.

4. What are your thoughts on your board & off field club activities?

Off field activities are looking a lot better. Kelvin Thomas has settled the club and made a lot of small changes to build revenues. He's also very responsive to supporters suggestions and questions. The club are running a survey on safe standing. It's the type of supporter engagement that we all deserve. However the stand still isn't built, but with a criminal investigation taking place to work out exactly what happened no blame can be placed on KT.

5. Can you tell us up to 3 quirky things opposing fans might not know about your team?

Between 1960-65 we had 3 promotions and reached the top flight in the 1965-66 season before being relegated back down to the bottom division by 1969-70. The fastest rise and fall from bottom to top divisions in English football history.

6. Our fans love to read opposing team’s forums and blogs, any recommendations on these for your team?

I know there's a few guys who do Vlogs and previews, but the Northampton Chronicle will probably give the most insight into the team

7. How do you expect Vale to do this season?

Mid table, I think there's teams with a lot more quality than Vale, but you seem to have a fairly solid yet unspectacular squad. In a similar way to us, a couple of good additions could easily see a push for the playoffs. But fail to add any quality and it'd be just as likely for you to drop down the table

8. What is your team's most memorable game with Vale (good or bad reasons)?

In my only previous trip to Vale Park we got smashed 3-0 within 30 minutes. Based on our recent form I wouldn't be surprised if it was a similar result.

But I remember listening on the radio to our last meeting, the 2-2 draw in what I think was your last game before promotion and Lee Collins' own goal late on.

9. A score prediction (and potential scorers for both sides) and what do you expect your away following to be?

I'd like to say we could nick a win but at the minute i'd take a point to stop this run of defeats.

1-1 - Richards (Former Club Syndrome) & Cicilia - from what I know, he's scored a few recently

Expecting around 600 to travel but that really is a guess.

Already back home, passed 2 Sunday league games being played on the way there. You'd have thought for their 'biggest game ever' and sharing the ground with a cricket club, someone might have an ounce of sense to cover the areas of the pitch in the shade?

Absolute joke of a club
86  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The Road to Wembley - Who do you want in round 2? on: December 01, 2016, 21:53:23 pm
Yes, that's it. It was some time ago but the meal was brilliant and I always promised myself to return there if I was ever near by. Check it out fellow hungry cobblers!

Unfortunately i am no longer able to go on sunday to watch our match with Stourbridge, as a result i have 2 tickets (1 adult and 1 concession) that i will happily sell at their original price.

Pm me if you want them.

PM sent - as I am the only ST holder in my house - didn't fancy going alone so this is perfect if you've still got them

Don't think this 6 player rule affects goalkeepers? Sure I read that somewhere, happy to be corrected if not. Rule can also be if one of the 6 play in the following league game too.

I would also like to see Paddy Kenny in goal please

Don't state opinion as fact. I believe Accrington started last season top of league 2 whilst we were lower mid table. Look how that turned out.

On current form Shrewsbury are the worst team in the division, that is a fact not an opinion
93  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Shrewsbury (A) Sat 22nd Oct on: October 21, 2016, 12:46:36 pm

There's absolutely no such thing as a 'false position' - if you have less points than everyone else in the league, you are currently the worst team in the league - fact.

Page will set out to take a point and we'll likely lose with Ivan Toney bound to score - I'd love to be proven wrong but I just can't see it at the moment

Does anyone know of anywhere cheap/decent to park near the ground? Sorry for the boring question but it is genuinely my first trip up the wrong end of the Nene
96  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Millwall H on: October 15, 2016, 17:37:41 pm
I don't understand all the hype about Jak McCourt, his ability is on par with Ricky Ravenhill

Just been reading the Northampton thread on the Utd forum red cafe.

Basically they are s***ting it.

They seem a fairly magnanimous lot though apart from one pillock who proclaimed us a **** pub team until other united fans put him right.
They are honestly very worried and to be honest the way we CAN play and the way they ARE playing, they should be.

Come on cobblers!!!!

Also most of them seem to think that it'll be a draw and a replay...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
99  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: EFL Cup 3rd round on: September 18, 2016, 18:21:20 pm
Anderson is cup-tied.

Ah, I wasn't aware. Then I'd have to start Potter then
100  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: EFL Cup 3rd round on: September 18, 2016, 17:38:37 pm
Teamwise what's everyone thinking?

               Smith
Moloney, Zak, Diamond, Buchanan
             McCourt
      O'Toole      Taylor
Anderson                Gorre
              Revell

Zak offers a lot more than Nyatanga in my opinion and we've conceded more without him in the team.

Beautyman was ineffectual on Saturday and JJ adds a bit of bite along with McCourt in midfield and would be the one of the 3 in the middle to push a bit further forward.

I'd persevere with Gorre, in a game where points aren't at stake. I pray he might just come good
