Thought that was the best we had played for weeks. Shame about not stuffing The Gas but who cares now.

When I were a lad .... we lived in fear of the local bobby catching us riding a bike on a footpath or without lights. Now everyone does, not just kids. Blokes in full gear on proper bikes on the pavement when there is a cycle lane, and yes with earphones on. Stupid people on these daft tiny bikes whizzing round at night........

Remember when they ruled the Town League. Won the Daventry Charity Cup several times. A huge crowd at Daventry to see a Junior Cup Final. Daventry Town also in trouble. Such a shame.

Don't know if this applies on this thread. I dislike the bloke but hasn't Gary Johnson done a good job at Cheltnum this season?

Bought a Season Ticket yesterday for the first time for many years. I can't make all home games so not been worth it. Next season want to make sure I get in and its a good deal for us oldies.

I don't understand this argument. CW himself said he made a mistake and that it didn't work. Everyone I know was surprised by the selection and surely there is no harm in expressing this without in anyway denegrating CW.
I was on holiday and wasn't there but the feeling I had when I heard the half time score was so unfamiliar, it put me off my cream tea.

Perhaps a passionate speech by CW about the state of the plumbing in the gents would help?
549  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Newport (h) - Good Friday on: March 26, 2016, 20:15:50 pm
Hi cordwainer.  We water pitch like other clubs on request of manager.  When the grass leaf is dry slows the ball down so we just apply bit of water to speed it up a bit. Hope this answers question pal.

Regards paul (groundsman)
Thanks for that Paul.
Does the club plumber read this?
550  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Newport (h) - Good Friday on: March 26, 2016, 16:51:01 pm
Two water based questions. Why did they water the pitch before the game and at half time? Secondly, whats gone wrong withe taps in the Gents? Either no water or all over the floor! Reminded me of the Hotel End except it was water on the floor.

No stand outs today, the usual stars subdued. Probably Marquis for constant effort.  A mention for Prosser who I thought was OK.

I have been going to Cobblers away games since 1965. When I was young, I always stood up as there was always standing areas in those days, indeed I preferred it until old age and ailments meant that I cannot physically stand for the whole of a game. Therefore reluctantly I sit down. In an ideal world there would be a choice as per York where you can stand behind the goal or sit with us olduns in the stand at the side. Lots of grounds do not offer this now so I don't think it unreasonable that those who wish to stand allow those who can't to see the game. Some of us actually like to watch  the game but we do join in with singing and chanting believe it or not.
553  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Lucky Pants? on: March 13, 2016, 09:22:02 am
As my drawers seem to be causing draws, perhaps I should retire them and try a different outfit for Stevenage?
554  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: March 13, 2016, 09:18:37 am
Real progress I thought. Two "ball boys", neither wearing safety hats!
555  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The 'Clare Balding' POTS: Cambridge United (h), 12/03/2016 on: March 12, 2016, 18:37:04 pm
Buchanan excellent, Diamond until the 90th minute but I give it Marquis for all round effort, leading the line and scoring.
556  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Lucky Pants? on: March 10, 2016, 16:56:13 pm
No, don't be silly - it must be your pants. Do you have to be wearing them, or can we run them up the flagpole at Portsmouth?
In fact, why not contact Look East - I see no reason why you shouldn't wear them while parading their studio: it might take their eye of all the Norwich and Ipswich stuff.

Unfortunately Steve. they are a bit ancient now and are a wee bit worn. In fact they are more hole than pant! Otherwise a good idea.
557  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Lucky Pants? on: March 10, 2016, 16:15:14 pm
Can you update us please. Did you have your lucky kit on?
I forgot my scarf at Hartlepool so that may have caused the draw, but was fully kitted for Wombles so it didn't work there. Lucky pants on for Carlisle although not there. So perhaps it may be down to the players and the manager rather than my pants?
558  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: You can't catch us now! on: March 10, 2016, 09:45:41 am
Looking at those fixtures, Oxford seems the easiest of those concerning us. They could win them all if they get a run going. They are, after all, the "best team in the division".
559  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Cambridge (H) on: March 09, 2016, 15:43:42 pm
Is the pitch OK? Flooding all round the area.
