1  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Arsenal U18's on: Yesterday at 22:53:10
We go to Arsenal for the 3rd round of the FA Youth Cup, has anyone got any idea where they play ?
Boreham Wood FC. Trains every 10 mins from St Pancras (if coming in from London!) and the ground around 15 min walk from Elstree & Borehamwood station.

Anyone know when though?
2  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Checkatrade Trophy Draw on Friday on: Yesterday at 19:49:30
I think that you both missed the irony in my post...  Cool
You mean we've been whooshed? Did worry!  Grin
3  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Head Down Hoskins on: Yesterday at 19:46:00
I remember being told a story about someone in McDonalds biting into a McChicken sandwich and getting a rather chewy bitter lump with her mayonnaise mouthful. The horror as she realised it wasn't actually mayonnaise... turns out the chicken had assist!  Tongue
4  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Head Down Hoskins on: Yesterday at 19:39:07
Good point, had we got better players his assist record would be better. As mentioned before he is 11 chances better than anybody in the league. I wonder how far ahead he is of KvV who by his own admission has created “loads”of  assists
Shouldn't someone be assisting Hoskins?
To be fair, they wouldn't actually get accredited with many 'assists'!  Grin
5  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Checkatrade Trophy Draw on Friday on: Yesterday at 15:42:38
Pretty sure the U23s won't be using Stamford Bridge in anycase
They did last season!
6  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Exeter City (a) on: Yesterday at 15:31:24
No mention of what pubs you will be drinking in  Sad Very disappointing!

Will Crooks be Back? Foley sits out the last game of his ban and no Junior available.
Having been to the last five or six visits to Exeter - both Saturday and mid-week games, the Old Fire Station is recommended. Sure anyone who's been to Exeter will know, The Imperial, just up from St David's Station is by quite far and away the best Wetherspoons in the country!

However, giving Devon a miss on this occasion... couple of us having a day out down at London Bridge, South Wimbledon and Morden for Dulwich Hamlet v Oxford City!  Wink

Double Agent Coolie , Double Agent. We set Gerry up to use Hanslope Spire in 1938. As far as I know no bombs fell in Hanslope 1940 - 1945! There is a Roman in the vicinity.
Good isn't
Do you mean Roman Villa? Think earthworks found near Old Stratford!

Kärl Heinz Henry...any news?
8  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Karl Henry? on: Yesterday at 14:04:28
Hanslope spire was deliberately set up to misguide the Germans away from B’ham factories. Bit like the road signs all pointing wrong way in case the buggers got here.

Who told you that?  Grin
Shed load of bombs landing around Hanslope, Cosgrove and Yardley Gobion... Luftwaffe tricked into thinking it was Coventry!  Grin

Edit;
St James the Great church (Hanslope) 136ft spire re-built in 1804...bit before Göring's boys took to the skies!  Wink

Speaking of Germany..has Kärl signed yet?

So, a brand new away terrace to Christen and a slight dip in Devon's second club's performances of late...a win in the wings!
10  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: F A CUP DRAW on: Yesterday at 13:54:42
So we did miss out on Sunderland away then!  Wink
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Checkatrade Trophy Draw on Friday on: Yesterday at 13:51:22
Ties to be played week commencing 3 Dec.
Only the older element amongst us (beyond me) will have seen us at Stamford Bridge previously?
Might struggle for tickets?
Struggle for tickets? When Oxford Utd played there last season (same competition) the entire attendance that night was 4000!   Grin
12  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Checkatrade Trophy Draw on Friday on: Yesterday at 13:48:28
Hoping for an away tie, preferably not against the winners of our previous group!   Grin
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Karl Henry? on: November 13, 2018, 19:30:26 pm
Bare with me on this, some claim the battle site was at Upper Stow. This would mean the terrain of the land there with the dual hills contributed to the defeat of Britain at that time. Fast forward 2000 years and the Watson Wilkins team proved the concept of radar on the very same fields, thus the same terrain contributed considerably to saving the Allies and Britain in WW2. Some coincidence that would be, hope it turns out to be true? Anyway, better get back to the football or I’ll get shouted at again, has he signed yet?
Hanslope church and its magnificent spire (close to the geographical area in question) served as a beacon for the Luftwaffe in WW2.

Haven't got a clue who the fcuk Karl Henry is or his relevance!
Heinkel III pilot or one of Boudicca's daughters?
14  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: F A CUP DRAW on: November 13, 2018, 15:00:24 pm
Come on Oxford City .... Otherwise weekend in Liverpool looking doubtful in January
Hadn't thought about that!
Will be at the replay next Tuesday (and a couple of us NTFC at Dulwich this Sat).
I'll pass on your concerns!  Grin
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Head Down Hoskins on: November 13, 2018, 13:19:03 pm
Yes , Its why I don't listen to the opinion of about 80% of our fans. Most will just follow what they hear others saying and unfortunately our most negative fans are often the loudest.

It does work both ways though, Some players become untouchable alas Taylor last year but its mainly people picking a scape goat and it catching on M.Taylor, D'Ath , Grimes or Hoskins.

Agree in principle with your sentiments, though don't agree with your example of Taylor being put forward.
Very much divided opinion on him - personally, loved the guy, superb opportunity everytime he had a freekick, though yes, legs had gone.

Sammo for me as a bang average player and rather poor manager seems to have gilded 'legend' status!
More latterly, Richards and to an extent JJOT fit the mould!
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Head Down Hoskins on: November 12, 2018, 20:14:47 pm
Can we cut with all this terminology that makes 'Super Sammy' appear better than he apparently is...
Assist = questionable pass that may or may not have lead to a goal or goal scoring opportunity!  Wink
17  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: F A CUP DRAW on: November 10, 2018, 19:20:16 pm
...and Woking always take more than one man and a dog!
Needs to scrutinize his extremely Lincoln biased stats a little closer!

I'll go 6,238 (594 Cobbs)

Pretty much spot on!
Few Cobblers on the the 6.30pm back. Gutted!
18  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: F A CUP DRAW on: November 08, 2018, 20:11:48 pm
No trains between Wellingborough and Leicester this Saturday, bus replacements. Just under 4 hours each way and £44 !!!!
Ah, apologies to my little brigade then!  Grin

Always the X7 Stagecoach into Leicester, lads!  Wink
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Karl Henry? on: November 08, 2018, 15:45:59 pm
You both maybe wrong you have to remember the position of the 3  legions at time of rebellion. Also where Boudicca”s return point from St Albans and vitally the roads in existence at the time! For some time the battle site was thought to be near Mancetter then/or High Crioss at intersection on A5/FosseWay. The latest thinking is now Dunstable where the A5 hits a gorge which opens up to a plain as you travel North. All you have to do is read Tacitus account of the battle (Wiki!!) the pointers from above plus some Heavy reading in JRS! Pretty sure Coolie can up with an informed but educated guess.

Mancetter near Atherstone...used to live near there. Never saw or heard owt!  Grin Actually, that area is spot on to where Henry Tudor camped the night, before watching and letting everyone help him defeat Richard III at Bosworth.

More likely nearer Dunstable than Mancetter in reference to Boudicca I'd have thought, given she was travelling up from the Colchester area with her large but rag-tag brigade. She's rumoured to be buried under St Pancras station - makes sense, as you can get London Midland direct to Dunstable from there!
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: F A CUP DRAW on: November 08, 2018, 12:15:32 pm
Wellingborough straight up to Nottingham, then 1hr at £11rtn by train is hardly the Trans-Siberian to be fair!
