Try that...

I see how it is.
2  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Kevin van Veen on: Yesterday at 21:41:13
Well Harry Kane has revealed his target for the last few seasons.

He got the world cup spot on too.
3  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Carlisle United away on: Yesterday at 21:33:23
I was there and agree he kicked well and his handling was good.  The trouble is he gave away two goals that are bread and butter saves to a decent keeper. The first is really well struck and dips a bit,  but it only looks like a “wonder goal” because he gets nowhere near it. I honestly don’t remember any of Ricky’s flying into the middle the goal.

Seeing as you keep banging on about it:

It's not that he's bad, it's just all our previous keepers have been better.
6  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Kevin van Veen on: August 12, 2018, 17:29:44 pm
If he stays fit, obviously. I agree but I also think he may well see a red card or two. Why he didn't see any part of the action against Lincoln when we were chasing the game is anybody's guess.

He's never been sent off in English football.
7  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Carlisle United away on: August 12, 2018, 12:04:37 pm

Our biggest weak link by far was in the right back position. Based on yesterdays game, the new lad was Ashley Corker-esque! He just couldn't defend basically, and they targeted his side throughout. He was also very close to getting himself sent off.

I got crucified for saying similar last week. Poor first touch, poor distribution and never knows where to be positionally. I understand he's our young/cheap reserve right back... But frustrating to watch none the less.

I think what is currently paining me the most, is our set pieces. Bafflingly some of our fans celebrated Grimes leaving so we'd have different set pieces. We now have Hoskins on corners, and Taylor on freekicks! Always be careful what you wish for.

I was pleased to see van Veen getting off the mark in a cobblers shirt yesterday. Clearly a class act, and the more reserved fans understood he was injured for much of the his time with us last season. Thankfully KT didn't sell KvV and Crooks cheaply..  We'd have lost 2-0  Tongue

Hopefully we start picking up points soon. Nothing is convincing me we'll have a good season so far.

Crooks proved at Walsall, that he he can play out wide, and had their full back in his pocket. The only problem with this, is that, with Powell on the other side, the keepers distribution inevitably was aimed towards Crooks, as Powell absolutely cannot/will not head a ball. This is predictable game play, which can very quickly be detected by the opposition.

Hope this helps.
9  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Carlisle United away on: August 10, 2018, 21:09:31 pm
You clearly do not get to many games, nor have seen how many times Powell has pulled away from the headed opportunity.
If it is aimed at his head, and he ducks out, then it becomes a problem. I am sure that can appreciate that.

So you're suggesting to counter his bad heading, we need someone else who's bad at heading on the opposite flank?
10  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ins and Outs - Summer 2018 on: August 10, 2018, 12:56:27 pm

A point I made in an earlier post remains however. Can loans with a contractually binding agreement to buy at the end of the loan period still be made

Yes.
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ins and Outs - Summer 2018 on: August 09, 2018, 21:35:09 pm
But what if people are thick?

We're reaching stupidity levels I've only seen on the unofficial ntfc Facebook page.
12  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ins and Outs - Summer 2018 on: August 09, 2018, 20:14:37 pm
More acceptable fees? Haven't they had all summer to do that.

Correct. And all of August.
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ins and Outs - Summer 2018 on: August 09, 2018, 19:58:20 pm
We are not going to allow main players to leave on loan with a view to a permanent move in January if we have fended of cash offers for players in this window. Even we wouldn't be that stupid. It makes no business sense

But clubs can still bid cash now..  Including more acceptable fees. It's really not that hard to understand.
14  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ins and Outs - Summer 2018 on: August 09, 2018, 18:11:04 pm
The value of any loan deal will naturally be less as by January the contact will be 6 months shorter. If we have held out for a fee now for the likes of Crooks then I cant see a loan to permanent being agreed. Any loans will be players that aren't going to make the starting 11 on a regular basis and we want off the wage book.

So if Rotherham bid 500k for Crooks tomorrow, but on loan till January... You're saying it'll be rejected?
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ins and Outs - Summer 2018 on: August 09, 2018, 18:00:06 pm
So, the club have batted away all interest and turned deals down (according to Radio Northampton) but will now allow players to leave on loan with a view to a permanent deal in January? These deals may not go through (in January) for various reasons such as an injury or the player in question isn't the player they thought he was after all. Surely, it would be better to take the money now and eliminate those possibilities?

You don't get how these loans are made. The transfer is confirmed for 1st January, but they spend first half of the season on loan. The permanent part just becomes a formality.... The window is effectively still open for most league clubs.
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ins and Outs - Summer 2018 on: August 09, 2018, 16:54:34 pm
At the moment only 4 seat cabs available. It's scuppering the move for all of them at present. I'll let you know if I hear any more.

An update. Beds has just turned up to explain to the taxi driver how a bus can make more money by having more seats. Will the bus turn up in the next 6 minutes? Gripping stuff over here.
17  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ins and Outs - Summer 2018 on: August 09, 2018, 16:26:06 pm
I would find it very strange that we would enter a loan with a view to a permanent move for Crooks, KvV or any of our top player especially with our tough stance on only if the price is right. So I'm not worried about the loan window personally.

You can pay a loan/transfer fee, player goes on loan till January where they formally sign. Window is effectively still open if you have room for a loanee (we can still sign 3 players for example).
18  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ins and Outs - Summer 2018 on: August 09, 2018, 16:24:29 pm
Correct.

Holmes to Oxford confirmed, so he's not the ex player signing today. I wonder who it could be?

The 5 that are off, are they sharing a cab? Is that why they haven't been announced yet?

Deadline day is very dull isn't it

At the moment only 4 seat cabs available. It's scuppering the move for all of them at present. I'll let you know if I hear any more.
19  The Hotel End / Other Football & Sport / Re: Former Cobblers on the move. on: August 09, 2018, 13:06:35 pm
Toney signed for Peterborough for 650K... Wonder if we get a % sell on? Doubt it.

Sad that we moan about paying fees for players, sign Peterborough cast offs whilst they can boast 650k fees on our brightest youth prospect since Jacobs.
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ins and Outs - Summer 2018 on: August 09, 2018, 11:27:30 am
Apparently they paid £100k + for him. So I'm guessing the profit will be -£100k +

You're guessing the profit will be the revenue minus the cost?!
