This was my predicted team selection on Saturday at 12.06 ....
Just in case anyone missed it ......

I thank you .
Team exactly right

Hard to miss when you keep going on about it.
2  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Walsall Satdee (great escape part two) on: Yesterday at 15:24:23
My most local fixture of the season... been looking forward to it since the season started. Manic Street Preachers in Birmingham on the Friday, fans team game at Walsall Saturday morning, afternoon away day followed by beers and food in the city centre. Why can't all weekends be like this?
3  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Terrace talk this Saturday on: April 22, 2018, 21:03:35 pm
I also saw Long with a big grin on his face having clearly found something funny a couple of seconds after Hoskins missed from a one on one chance.
I'd like to think it was a complete coincidence but I can't be sure.

I saw that. He then went over to KvV and they both had a laugh.
4  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Looking ahead with our squad... on: April 18, 2018, 20:51:59 pm
Definitely Daniel, have you people not been watching this season?

Exactly. I thought the inclusion of Mickey Bell at left back was the real surprise... No idea why our Powell is getting stick.
5  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Looking ahead with our squad... on: April 18, 2018, 20:03:01 pm
It's Nick Powell of Wigan...

Pretty sure it is Daniel.

Mark Hughes, Bayo and Kyle Walker all make PFA team of the year. How is Mark Hughes 'only' 31?! He's been around forever.
7  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Looking ahead with our squad... on: April 17, 2018, 20:53:24 pm
I think teams at the top of League 2 are stronger than lower League 1 teams.

I'm not convinced looking at the players who occupy the top 3 places. Wycombe are playing a front three of Mackail-Smith, Bayo and Tyson as an example.

The likes of O'Toole, Crooks, Pierre and Taylor will be star players at that level.
8  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: April 17, 2018, 19:53:21 pm
"Moving further from the M1". Why?
"Moving nearer to the M1". Why?

I wish I never said it now!! It's completely pointless and will literally never happen. But my reasoning was purely for commercial reasons (conferencing facilities, hotel usage etc etc). I'd be sceptical towards Sixfields being able to tap into this market. But then again, I think I'm becoming more cynical as the years drag on... I'm also hugely sceptical an extra 3000 capacity bolted onto our away end will make any difference.
9  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Relegation Watch on: April 17, 2018, 17:08:20 pm
Should we lose to Plymouth on Saturday:

We will be all but relegated by virtue of our goal difference if: Oldham win at Rochdale tonight OR at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday AND Walsall collect a point at Sc***horpe.

We will be officially relegated if: Oldham beat Rochdale and draw at AFC Wimbledon AND Walsall win at Sc***horpe.

Cheers. So we're all supporting Rochdale tonight right?!
10  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: April 17, 2018, 17:06:47 pm
Oh and a train has never stopped at that platform for a game - ever! If the location is so dandy - why do we have to get taxis from the centre? And yes, I know Coventry well!

I did state non-matchday for the train usage. I wasn't on about matchday experience with anything I was waffling on about... purely the commercial side.
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: April 17, 2018, 15:59:40 pm
Have you been around by Coventry and Walsall's grounds on non match days ? I have and apart from Tesco's at Cov its no different to Sixfields and Walsall has a McDonalds and a budget hotel to go with a load of warehouses.

Yes, I regularly attend conferences/training days at both unfortunately. I probably shouldn't reference Coventry due to the horrible nature of the football side... but what they offer on non matchdays is fantastic. Excellent transport with a train going direct to the stadium (likewise Bescot).

This is what Walsall offer:

•17 individual function rooms
•Our capacities range from 2 to 1000 guests
•Located in the heart of the West Midlands
•12 miles north of Birmingham
•Close proximity to the M6 J9
•Over 1000 FREE parking spaces on site
•Bescot station is a short walk from the stadium
•Complimentary WiFi throughout the stadium
•Hotel accommodation on site

Their motorway billboard advertising is a bit of a money spinner too. This is their venue's website for information of what lower league clubs should do at a minimum: http://www.wfcthevenue.co.uk/

Attracting England youth games (due to travel ease) is another way they generate money outside of the regular season.

Fingers crossed they get relegated (with Coventry staying down)... these'll be my local games next season!
12  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: April 17, 2018, 15:26:54 pm
I wouldn't say Sixfields is in a bad location?

The likes of Coventry, Walsall etc pick up excellent music concerts as well as being ideally placed for business conferences and the like. Sixfields is in a dead area for the '365 days a year business'.
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: April 17, 2018, 15:18:52 pm

That said, given the club don't own the stadium, is it worth spending money on it or should a new build be sought closer to the town centre?

I actually agree with this aspect.

I don't believe there is a business case to expand the capacity at Sixfields at all. An imaginary extra 3000 terrace floating above the existing away end will mean we'll still only have a top end League 2/Bottom end League 1 capacity.

The only way we'll progress is a new stadium in a better location. Possibly replicating what the Bescot does, but utilising the popular M1 for it's vast commercial opportunities.

Obviously neither scenario will happen.
14  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Relegation Watch on: April 17, 2018, 11:14:03 am
Am I right in thinking an Oldham win tonight will effectively mean any loss will relegate us?
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Looking ahead with our squad... on: April 17, 2018, 09:20:48 am
KVV the only actual name mentioned.

And that was by his agent? And KvV told you himself that he's unhappy right?

 Roll Eyes
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Looking ahead with our squad... on: April 16, 2018, 21:26:29 pm
Several players already planning their exit. The one who is probably most desperate to depart is KVV. His agent has been working on finding his next club for some time. Would suggest he regrets coming here in the first place. Don't think too many will be sorry to see him go though.

Did his agent tell you this himself?
17  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Dean Austin on: April 16, 2018, 19:06:06 pm

Its ironic that those people citing Wilder as an example of how a manager will perform well if given a good amount of time (3 years) fail to remember Ian Atkins or Graham Carr, who both spent several seasons as our manager and both ended up where they started back in the 4th tier and playing absolutely awful football!

And that second part is key. No one knows what would have happened if Wilder or Calderwood had stayed with us in League One... we can only speculate. I completely agree that a lot must fall into place. Timing, opportunity and luck. Imagine if we sacked Wilder in his second season? He'd have been regarded as a failure and next move probably would have been back in non-league. A historical (but classic one), what if United sacked Fergie all them years ago?

I guess the best ones always 'create their own luck' as such.
18  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Dean Austin on: April 16, 2018, 15:27:31 pm
Fair assessment I’d say. To be honest I took that it doesn’t seem to be either an advantage or disadvantage so pretty much the same as you. That’s the way it seems to appear anyway?

I read it as 10 over achieving, 4 as expected, 1 under achieving.
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Pummeling The Pilgrims 21st April (H) on: April 16, 2018, 13:14:50 pm
I’m not sure about Barnett and Taylor either . Maybe Poole should play instead of Barnett .

It seems we are now onto our 3rd manager this season who prefers Barnett to Poole.
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Dean Austin on: April 16, 2018, 09:22:24 am
FFP rules determine how much money a club has to spend on its team.  So, the argument "Oh, it's because xyz money, blah, blah, blah" is meaningless.

The richest club in the World is...... Huh???   Manchester United.  Who lost at home to WBA at the week-end.  Man U. playing the drabbest football ever, given the opposition.  WBA are relegated because they are s***e - yet, suddenly, against Man U., they play like wolves.  Why, because somewhere (new manager bounce maybe) they have played to win.

To be fair, Man United are second. Man City, PSG, Barcelona have all spent the most in their respective leagues and are all league champions... so it's hardly meaningless.

WBA won with barely any possession, less shots on goal - but that's football, and that's why we'll be at Sixfields on Saturday thinking we can beat Plymouth.
