61  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Relegation Watch on: February 18, 2024, 18:31:20 pm
I wonder, is this the squad with the least changes after recent promotion to League One?
That’s a good point
I think our problems always start when we fail to build the next team to try to stay up
We never seem to and we never invest to try to even going back to the Stuart gray times
These are heady days for the club and should be embraced because history dictates it will not last  Sad
62  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Leonard and Bowie on: February 18, 2024, 13:23:51 pm
I agree that we have been lucky to have them but both are significantly better players now than when they first came to us. They too are lucky.
Brighton and Fulham are luckiest of all.
63  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Leonard and Bowie on: February 18, 2024, 09:32:43 am
Which isn't much different to a lot of the clubs in the Third and Fourth divisions that don't have owners with limitless funds.
I personally think football clubs would be better off if they were not over reliant on loans
A three in a squad limit is plenty and would mean clubs having more permanent players of their own and would also mean a trickle down of more talent into the lower leagues
At the moment prem and championship clubs stockpile talent to loan out and it’s to the detriment of the game.
Chelsea for example have players everywhere around the world on loan.
They should be restricted to only five players loaned out each season , this would mean that many young players would be released having never played a first team game for any club and would then think about playing for lower division clubs rather than sign for a big six club and fade into obscurity.
At the moment it’s too easy for prem clubs to loan loads of players out each season and too easy for lower league clubs to over rely on the system.
64  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Leonard and Bowie on: February 18, 2024, 09:04:16 am
The biggest worry for me is how on earth will we replace them for next season. Over to you JB and good luck, I think you may need it.
We won’t and we will get relegated as a consequence imo.
We’ve got lucky with these two
all we need is a yengi and a DWP on loan instead and we are down.
As I’ve said before next season david bower will need to step up and invest if we are to stay in league one.
Loans to paper over cracks won’t work and if we go down that route il be straight down the bookies….
Unfortunately the loan system is an over reliance for our club and we only need to be unlucky once.
Personally I’ve zero faith that David bower will replace the loans with anything more than more loans and that won’t work forever.
Does anyone really think we will replace our standout players with league one standard permanent signings next year?
David needs to either dig deep or get some investment in , it’s down to him ,KT is only the spokesman.
Sorry to be negative but that is my opinion built on past failures and a failure to back JB in the Jan window.

I’m glad we’ve won

Looks like we’ve already broken gape !!!
Why do we always do things on the cheap

With good reason!

(
In fairness, I think we all know he's meant to say "criticised" but it does worry me that Roger's autocorrect assumed otherwise!  Tongue
A most unfortunate typo

Boro paid £500k for him and sold him for £6m.
I know KT likes to splash the cash but I think his wages might be a tad higher than we can afford, he is also at Stoke City.
I’d prefer Haaland to be honest.
He’s out of contract and port vale are interested.

It was sunny earlier on which was lovely but then the wind picked up and it got cold quite quickly

75  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Players Under & Out of Contract on: February 09, 2024, 15:57:21 pm
I can’t believe anyone would keep Patrick Brough he’s absolutely terrible at defending.
That’s a bad attribute for someone whose main priority is to defend.
76  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The Nene Derby part 2 05.03.24 on: February 09, 2024, 09:30:03 am
So we are now having a "review" because it seems it was a mistake to put them on general sale. But this must be down to more than one person, the ticket office decide to sell them, pass that on to the media to put it out, but no one thought "this is not the way we usually do it" Huh?Huh?Huh???
It's not the first time we've sold tickets, the game is not next week, so surely someone MUST have had doubts about no priority for STH's ?
Maybe they can void them all and put them on resale to ST holders first as usual
77  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The Nene Derby part 2 05.03.24 on: February 08, 2024, 17:12:27 pm
Always likely to sell out
I imagine I follow will be very busy that day for those who’ve failed to get tickets.
78  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: February 07, 2024, 08:19:35 am
That's fair enough. We move kick off times anyway, I'm sure we'd get our own schedule and any teams in the Prem no longer have the 3pm Saturday routine.
I just don't see anything on the horizon that is going to transform Sixfields into a money maker without significant investment. With the lack of foreseeable investment I'd personally move somewhere fit for purpose. After all, it has taken over 10 years to get one stand finished to a standard that isn't much better than when it was first built.
As alluded, the Saints are one of the top teams in the country and probably wouldn't want to entertain us anyway.

The way football goes we must be due our turn with someone with a bigger chequebook.

I have no idea regards our current owners wealth , he may be wealthier than anyone knows.
79  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Jon Brady, the future on: February 05, 2024, 14:20:14 pm
You make some valid points/criticisms but provide no solutions other than owners simply putting in more money and therefore more debt.  What happens next year when we have the same issue?

If you look back at the history of this club these owners and manager are facing the exact same challenges every other owner and manager this football club has ever had.
I take all your points on board but I also think it’s fair to say that the club has never had such backing crowd wise in many many years.
If we can’t find a new owner or David is prepared to accept investment partners if he can’t fund a stable league one club himself at this time when we are getting nearly 100% ticket sales income on a regular basis then it hurts me to say it but there is no future for the football club other than league two football with the inevitable smaller crowds and smaller incomes.
In a nutshell something HAS to change because we all know what will happen if it doesn’t because we’ve all seen it before….
80  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Jon Brady, the future on: February 05, 2024, 13:45:56 pm
Goode money and free Chelsea money = Danny Hylton.
It’s why I rarely get excited by cash injections.
Of course it does  Grin
Goode money plus Chelsea money = no cash bids in the region of 200k which is what Exeter have been doing, the same Exeter our own club chairman/spokesman Kelvin thomas quoted earlier this season as a club we are about the same budget as.

That is comparing apples with apples
One club puts in large bids for players and one club doesn’t put in large bids for players.

You can polish turds as much as you like but the above is fact and not conjecture.

Therefore one would assume Jon Brady is at the end of his tether signing a load of cheap signings and loans  (in fact he was due to have to sign yet another loan making six when you can only play five rather than being able to BUY a couple of players he had targeted)

It would be easy for him to see very little future of progression at the cobblers given this strategy and he is clearly venting his frustration.

Now I’d imagine (and at this point it is my own opinion rather than fact) that Jon realised that next season will need a big rebuilding job in arguably a more competitive division with big spenders likely coming up and down and he has realised the club will not be able to give him the tools to achieve this (ie) adequate financial backing given that he couldn’t bring his targets in during the Jan window.

Make no mistake we will need to BUY
2 strikers to replace Simpson and Bowie
A new first choice goalie
A replacement for Marc Leonard
A replacement for Sam sherring
A couple of wide players.

That’s at least seven first team players but in reality we will probably need three more squad players on top of this.
Given we can only get in five loans I’d imagine Jon would see the chances of the club buying five players in the summer when they can’t buy him one in Jan as very very unlikely and hence the club will do its usual trick of going back down in the second season as it isn’t prepared to spend to the required standard to ensure league one survival,

It keeps happening , the fans and more importantly Jon have seen it before and I’m sure he will be gone because of this before the start of next season.

David bower has failed to keep us as a stable league one club before and nothing makes me confident that he has learnt from those mistakes (at least he’s never come out and acknowledged things will be different this time as far as I’m aware).

That’s how I feel in a nutshell and I really hope David sees fit to back the club to help it on the field , mind you I like many others probably thought the same as the Jan window ticked down and it’s now clear Jon didn’t get the backing he was hoping for so maybe I’m just living in hope rather than expectation.

I think Jon now knows his stock is high and he will consider other jobs if he is backed financially better than he is here.

As always time will tell
