Yep, and we can do out perform our budget on occasion. I don't think any of its untrue, its just that there isn't a solution to not having any money, so moaning about it is a waste of your breath.

It'll be in the bottom top 4 for almost certain. Nothing anyone can do about it, and the difference between that and the 5 or 6 directly above wouldnt be insurmountable.
Rovers budget would be 1.5x - 2x ours I guess.

They are the divisions lowest scorers with just 4 goals from 10 games, failing to score in 7 and have kept 3 clean sheets.
This was a great preview and I don't want to nitpick, but haven't Cheltenham very famously not scored a goal all season? (Shrewbury are the second worst).

It was a post that mentioned both Simpson in the first sentence, and in the second talked about Lubala linking up Burton, and someone replied saying that the latter had attitude issues, no-one has claimed Simpson isnt trying... but he clearly is not 100% fit, and if we signed him to be a target man or want to get him to play that way we made a mistake.

I think your talking at cross purposes here. Would it count as an official match for statistics and record books yes? Would it count as a loss in terms of the pressure on the management team and players? No, not really, too many mitigating circumstances.

The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Barnsley team selection 23rd September 2023

Yeah, I'd say that Barnsley were a good tearm who were playing poorly, rather than a poor team.
I'll start with the few plusses. We're A-ok at Centre-back. Guthrie and Sherring did fine against the hottest striker in the league (I'm not going to blame them for the mess of the second goal - I always can't really blame Burge for not stopping a one on one with Cole bearing down on him with about 30 seconds to be able to choose his shot.). Appere got a goal, albeit against 10 men. Fox looked ok when he came on. We still know how to pass the ball from time to time.
Some real questions about whether the players know where they're supposed to be in transition or in possession. Half the time all of the four most forward players are trying to sit on the shoulders of the defenders, while we're trying to play it out in the back. The midfield just evaporates, either sitting with the defence going no-where or sitting with the Striker hoping for a hopeful ball. We still very obviously have no aerial presence anywhere outside the centre-backs, who fortunately are very good at it.
In terms of Simpson, he looks unfit. Not just not match fit, but genuinely unfit. Runs like a 34 year old coming to the end of their career. In the Langmead interview on the podcast, there was a real illuminating piece on his time for us, and the difference between his first and second year with us. First year, he missed the pre-season, ended up a few pounds overweight, and just found himself late to every single second ball by a second or too. Was just too slow to get to anything. Going through the second summer, he become almost obsessive with his food and calories and running to turn himself into one of the fittest players in the years. Hey presto, I think everyone here who watched him could see the obvious difference in how he played, going from a borderline laughing stock to probably the best player of this season. Makes me think what a actually fully fit Simpson could be for us. Felt a bit bad for him today, surrounded by 4 or 5 players at times and it looked like his body wasn't just quite quick enough to get where he wanted to be. He needs to do a Langmead, or he'll end up falling out of the football league.

Better team if it wasnt for a goalkeeping error (albeit playing into the wind). Big gap between Leonard and the next midfielder which is forcing us into playing it long. Great shot by Pinns, unfortunately saved by Roberts well.
Guthrie and Sherring have handled Cole well. But we need a bit more creativity in our midfield really... maybe time for Fox to do some box to box if he's fit enough.

They're third in the table... even if you argue they arent a good team, then they very much are in excellent form. Likewise a point would be very good against Exeter at the moment.
If we get a point from our game in hand, we're be doing better than 2 out out the 3 teams promoted with us. While we all have concerns about the team going forward, its not all doom and gloom at the moment. We just need to be collecting points at home to get us safe.

Being a Premiership club gives you £80 million in TV money versus, aproximately what our squad budget would be over the next 35 years, and that's not including any operating income from gate receipts or merchandise. So yeah, it's not that fanciful, their income is about 20 times ours, so their players get paid 20 times more. Would be like one of our players on £900 per week.

So would you describe losing £1M per year as "it is better to live within your means and KC regularly spoke of good house keeping." . Also, remember that clubs that get half our gates manage to turn a profit. I don't think there's smaller gates turning that much of a profit in the League tbf, but that surely supports the argument that it's impossible to just go out and spend more money to get League one players in. We're currently only self-sufficient when including player sales, which we haven't had any of this year (and Chuks would be last year and already attributed for).
