That doesn't surprise me. However none of those passes (hardly any) would have been visionary passes. And that's my point. He does do the simple things well, breaking up play and passing it short to someone more creative. The best similar type of player I've seen in recent years was James Hunt. That's the type of long term replacement for him I would like to see brought in. However we have seen far far worse and I would put Ricky in the bracket of one of the better players to play that position for us. It's just that now we have such a good team he does at times appear to be the weakest link and I understand the reasons why people think that.

Difference being, those players you mentioned, are able to win the ball, then pass it on to a teammate, Ravenhill, 80%, of the time, wins it, then gifts it straight back, therefore, rendering him utterly useless.
Do you think he has played for the clubs he has and won two league titles by being useless?? You may not like him but he captained our side when we needed characters to get stuck in. Get off his back..... Goon!

I'm not much in favour of tinkering, or squad rotation. If all fit, get your best 11 players on the pitch (as long as two of them aren't goalkeepers) and find a system to bring out the best in them.

He's rarely capable of passing the ball 10 yards to a teammate, which negates all of your points.
Forgive me but I'm sure I read earlier that you do not actually go to games. On what basis is this comment made?

Not specifically in relation to Ricky, but I thought people had stopped looking at that pass completion stat at the time it made Allen and Britton at Swansea appear to be two of the best players in Europe. It can also mean that a player is negative and risk-averse, just playing short balls sideways and backwards.

No, I said I havent renewed my season ticket and my visits to sixfields will be fleeting. I don't know if you've noticed, but we don't always play at home..... I also barely missed a game in the last 6 months of last season.

Baby Bear uses the "barely" word, how appropriate. I'm a great fan of that word myself, hides so many sins, as in... "I barely stole anything" Translation: An admission I did steal. "I barely look at porn" Translation: An admission I do look at porn. BARELY. Word of the day.

Cobblers fans, and football fans in this country in general, have always failed to appreciate the importance of defensive midfielders. Paul Trollope was also derided as a 'sideways and backwards' man but was actually a very effective servant for us.
You can't achieve anything without possession. We need someone - whether it's Ravenhill, Byrom or Watson- to win possession back and then play the simple pass. A midfield two of O'Toole and Carter would leave us too open IMO. It's not always about selecting the 11 most talented players in the squad. The priority at this level is finding a winning blend of 'warriors and artists'.

Yes, Paul Trollope and is ilk, most famously Butch Wilkins were well ahead of their time and would be in their element today where teams try to send the opposition (and those watching) to sleep by endlessly passing from one side of the ground to the other and back.
Note: Watched the Saints on TV last night. 24-6 up at half-time, the match was won and had it been football you could have expected the side to "see the game out" in the second half, keeping possession. Not the Saints, they ran in another 5 tries. I'd never swap Football for Rugby but by Christ could we learn a thing or two from the egg chasers.

Wouldn't it be exciting if those defensive midfielders you talk about, (would Deegan and Ravenhill fall into that category? ) were also able to make forward passes instead of laying it off backwards or sideways to someone who could. Also, what if those 'artists' (would Carter and JJ fall into that category?) were able to tackle and win possession back. Would that be possible at league two level.? Think what we could then do with the extra man..

I never said we don't need a player of this type, just a far better one. Remember Hargreaves, he could "put his foot in" pass it forward and even score the occasional goal, Roy Hunter, etc.etc. Even James Hunt was light years ahead of the current incumbent. Thankfully our manager has realised. Shame he didn't before offering an 18 month deal though.

Personally, I would consider making one signing: big targetman who we can throw on as a 'kitchen sink' option if we're chasing a game and have to go direct. Still, even that might be redundant if Langers returns to full fitness.
Right back remains an issue. Tozer is currently the best option there and he's fine unless playing against the four-five wingers at this level who have genuine pace, trickery and end product. Leon Mcsweeney is still a free agent and IMO looked very solid last year- perhaps we should send Alfei back and offer him a deal?
Bringing this up...2nd paragraph is spot on!

Everything's right in hindsight but I cant help thinking that the defence could have done with Tozer's no nonsense hard work today - and those throw bombs!
