I wonder if Sammo trialled any more players he has no intention of signing.

Do you mean trialling a few players to get to know first hand what they're like in case he needs someone in the near future, rather than waiting until he needs someone and starting from scratch? Just wondering.

Heard through the grapevine that the French lad who impressed at centre half against Oxford got another run (once again playing well) and another trialist had a useful run in the middle of the park playing along side Thornton.

No, i talking about bringing in trialists who may or may not go on to impress only to say, actually we're alright for players in that position anyway, making it a pointless exercise for both parties especially the player - must leave the player scratching his head thinking, "what was this trial for again?" (Upon reading the post above it appears the french defender who impressed the other was invited back, i should think so too.) Hope that helps, all the best, take care...bye.

The thing is, I believe that the trials are also attended by scouts/managers from other clubs, so although the club setting up the trial would have first dibs, it is also a shop window for all those triallists to find themselves a club.

He told me he was getting 45 mins in. So, a goal in one half excellent. We desperately need him on R Mid or up top.

Exactly, that is the 'Big Picture'. Likewise Sammo & scouts go to other games inc trial & reserve ones. Obvious innit especially as no reserve team this season!

Got a club email about this (I'm assuming they have my email from the club shop), and they mentioned something about a trialist they're having a look at being involved with the goal. Anyone know anything about it?

Contrary to what Horrace Whimp said it was the French trialist who scored the goal and not CH

I dont think any professional football team will ever 'desperately' need Courtney Herbert.

He has had his moments but never will be 'desperately' needed in my opinion . He is fast - Can maybe do a job to a certain extent - Most likely against old/tired legs. But in 12 months I think there has been little improvement with him in regards to when the ball is at his feet. A very clumsy footballer. I hope he imporves of course but time will tell. If we had a bigger squad I would be loaning him out to a conference club but one that has a good set up in regards to training or a local club so we still work with him 2/3 days a week.

Do you remember how, after his first few games, we were saying how can we hold on to him and how many hundreds of thousands will we get if we sell...?

Define "we".
To be fair when he first arrived he hit the ground running, and the goal against Bury still stands out, since and compiled with injurys here and there, things have cooled with Courtney ...having said that he then stars in a cameo role at all places Anfield - so it's very much a case of watch this space when it comes to Courtney Herbert!

I'm afraid that his injury took away his pace and ability to turn sharply, so only time will tell if he can get that back. I think it's worse than we've been told. I've also heard from several reliable sources that his mental attitude to his football is not as dedicated as it should be and that his energies are ofen directed elsewhere. If that's true then he'll never realise his potential. All we can hope is that he gets sorted and knuckles down to be 100% focused.
