Maybe it is - but thats not the point. The point is the message highlighted the comments from two posters which have been insulting to the point of legal action maybe taken. What I cant understand how the administrator can allow such defamatory messages to continue ad nauseam. Some of the posters on NTFC have hardly been supportive for example one post by "Lambretta". If any of us "were the Chairman" how would we feel to see defamatory messages continue unchecked. Most Cobblers supporters would not. Its about time most of us got our finger out and messaged supportive messages to this board.

? I'm not on here 24 hours a day. I don't read every single message. Having gone through the Statement from NTFC thread many of you said how you thought it was going too far? Yet how come not one reported post came my way?

Genuinely expressed matters of opinion or matters of concern are not the problem - they help the game along because we all get talking about things such as the ability of the players, whether we feel that admission prices, shirt prices, hospitality prices etc. are good value or not, whether Sammo and Crosby are doing a good job with the team, whether the Chairman is managing the club well or communicating properly with fans, etc. etc. Where there ARE problems is when posters on this site and others, start to get into unsubstantiated defamatory comments about either the club or about individuals within it. Some of it is plain nonsense based on something someone said to someone else after a few pints. Often they are comments that would not be made face-to-face, and encouraged by the feeling that using a pseudonym somehow makes it either more anonymous, or less likely that you will be caught. However, as soon as you press the "send" button on any message, your ISP information travels with it, and your hard disc on your computer will forever retain evidence that can be "lifted" by experts in any case brought before the courts.
I don't think there's any problem with a genuine whistle-blower passing on information that is correct even if it is embarrassing to the club...that is all in the public interest and is a level of free speech that a lot of people in the past have fought to achieve. BUT it is all underpinned by law for very good reason, and we should all be prepared to justify what we say in a court of law if it ever comes to the challenge. It all comes down to what is a) accurate and b) in the public interest. Steve Riches.

Indeed Steve....no wonder those concerned were very shy with revealing their real names...perhaps they knew they were getting themselves into hot water already!

Fair point about people not reporting the comments, there has to be an element of self-moderation of which we all have a duty to do. If i see something untoward i will certainly click that button in the future.
