No probs - go to all the away games , plus full apology on here to your distractors , including the Club, its facilities, The Chairman. Also an apology to Marvo for the PI made by you. That should do it Roll Eyes

ps don't let Bona Fide get to you! You'll be having sleepless nights.

Thanks Cobblerswatch, appreciated mate

Evers, I expect some of it is sour grapes but I took my treatment that DC did not want me around because he didnt want me pushing too much. Having seen what has been played out so far, well my worst fears seem to be coming true. As I said to him at the time, I support the club more than the team, the team is gone tomorrow, the club will (hopefully) be here forever. That is why I often missed much of the first half sorting out paperwork, helping others etc

I don't play office politics and if something is wrong then i say so, some people like it, others don't. Others around the club moan and complain to each other but smile and say nothing to DC, DC obviously prefers those kind of people. (there are a couple of genuine hard working people at the club who do a great job in awful circumstances, why they are still there only they know)

A lot of the points made resonate even more after yesterday. I had the real pleasure of attending a workshop session with the head of strength and conditioning from the Saints backroom staff. You can point to the extra resources all you like (although they have a strict salary cap including all backroom staff) but it is clear that success starts with the culture within the club.
The Saints have actually diluted the amount of tests their players undertake but hearing about their routines and discipline was staggering to an outsider. Daily weigh in, daily blood test, even 24/7 monitors to check the amount and quality of sleep. The players have apps to complete how they are feeling, before stretches with the physio and deciding what kind of training they need to do (if any) or if they need the cryo chamber. Granted their bodies take a lot more abuse than the average footballer but their condition is very closely monitored.

He said they have been on a journey since 2008 when the culture was terrible. The past 18 months have seen the most change, which he attributes to their success last season. I couldn't believe it until he put the pictures up but win, lose or draw the players tidy the dressing rooms after a game. In his words "they would run through walls for each other", which he applied to the players and all staff members at the club.

Maybe more relevant to us, he said how important it is that the fans feel as though they are part of the team. How much community work the players do (I know we do too but from my personal experience they are not the most reliable at showing up!) and that the players readily mix with the fans. He even gave examples of the big time Charlies who had been shown the door, regardless of ability.

Obviously as a Cobblers fan I couldn't help but relate it back to us (a lot of the internal stuff we clearly don't know about) but despite the gap in size and budget there is clearly a lot of the basics we could do better. Maybe the average footballer and rugby player/supporter is very different but it is still dealing with a competitive sport and its supporters at the end of the day. It's not just about money.

We went for a meal in Hemel yesterday with some friends, the wife wanted to stop off on the way to do some shopping. I sat in M&S cafe drinking a coffee whilst she shopped staring at the magnificent MK Dons stadium. It's enough to make you cry that it could so easily have been us. Those on the council that made THAT decision that day should be taken out and shot!

Agree with you 100% Marvo but doesn't a three sided stadium look much better?

You're absolutely spot on.

The thing is that NTFC has long had a pretty small-time mentality. This extends to a large proportion of the fan base who think we've always been a L2 level club so that is where we will remain.

Northampton is a bigger place and the club has a bigger catchment area than many Championship clubs. Look at Brentford, hardly what I would call moneybags.

What holds us back is exactly what you say, the culture of the town, the club and the environment. I don't actually think that people believe that in 3-5 years we could play in the Championship.

The problem with naming clubs like your example Brentford is that at any one time clubs will have their moment in the sun. You have to look at long term sustained progress, not just what has happened in the last couple of seasons. I remember when Cambridge were in what is now called the Championship, look at them now. Luton were in the top flight, look at where they've spent the last few seasons. I also recall Shoey championing Chletenham as the club whose example we should follow. How did that work out?
I would accept the likes of Wigan, Hull, Swansea as clubs that have achieved a sustained higher level than they once had but Brentford? Do me a favour, a couple of good seasons does not a successful club make.

Bring us the seats and we'll be there.
