When you look at that Anfield team, it really was terrible wasn't it? One decent player and one where nobody saw the potential. The rest were utter tripe and that is what makes the result still seem so amazing. So got Ben Tozer down as utter tripe bit good luck anyway!

I think that assessment is harsh on the team that night as I make at least 6 of the players would/may get into current squad  - certainly the goalie. As for Tozer I liked him ; in some away games he often stood out. For some reason not so evident at home. Would have kept him!

If he's given a run of game in his actual position - centre back - then I wouldn't be massively surprised if Tozer established himself as a more than decent league one + defender in the the vein of Byron Webster ( the last defender we offloaded to Yeovil).

His career has stagnated because of his perceived versatility when in reality he was always a poor midfielder, a mediocre/unnatural right back and a centre back with decent potential. At 25 he's still got time on his side.

For he is isn't imposing enough to be a regular centre back. He's ok there but not to the level of any of the others we had last season.

Quite often, you can tell a decent centre back if they score a few goals each season. Because if they are useful from our own set pieces then they will be good at the other end of the pitch!

Think decent centre backs at the Cobblers (or any level for that matter). Most of them score a handful of goals each season...factoring in that usually the pacey ones stay back on the half way line (e.g. Rio Ferdinand).

Good luck Ben Tozer. Final player from the infamous Anfield night.
Hope he gets an opportunity to play in his preferred position.

We're Northampton fans, so how can the Anfield night be considered infamous?

It's easy to describe a league 2 team as 'really terrible' and 'utter tripe' and perhaps compared to prem players that's what they are. Mind you, how many Northamptonshire born lads are currently professional footballers?
I would suggest they were a decent team and perhaps should have finished higher than 16th after getting Sammo the sack.

I agree as at least 6 of that side would have made at least into the 1st team squad:

 1    Dunn
14    Johnson
25    Tozer
2    Rodgers
8    Osman
11    Holt
17    Jacobs
23    Davis
4    Thornton
7    Gilligan
16    McKay

 Substitutes
15    Herbert
9    Guinan
13    Walker
20    Harris
12    Wedderburn
21    Slowe
