Jevons always seems to have done the business, but that is an opinion rather than a rumour.

Chris Zebroski (Torquay)? Phil Jevons (Morecambe)? Charlie Griffin (Stevenage)? Just a few names that haven't been mentioned yet, all big powerful forwards with decent strike rates so far this season, and all in our kind of price range, I'd imagine. Talk of bidding for Le Fondre is some way wide of the mark. Rotherham recently put a £1m price tag on his head and he'll probably be playing Premier League football for a Wolves or a Blackburn within 3 or 4 years. Way, way out of our league.
Jevons is 5'10 and 31 - not really what we're looking for.

Maybe I'm alone in this but I'd take ANY of the names mentioned linked with the role.
Is the striker from L2? or could it be a L1 reserve?

But he's got a one in three strike rate for Morecambe this season and played a big part in them finishing 4th last season on one of the division's lowest budgets. Probably not ideal, but can't imagine he'd cost that much and is a consistent performer- you know what you're getting with Jevons. Would be a safer option than signing, say, Zola, which would involve taking a massive financial gamble on a player who is very talented on his day, but blows hot and cold.

Would Chris Whepdale do the unthinkable & leave the p*sh to join us after his loan spell at Gillingham comes to an end Back in the Summer I had heard whispers about Rene Howe coming our way but he went to the dim ones & he has openly said in January he wants out & although the dim ones are where he seems to want to go could he decide to give league two a go with us

Do you know what "Nemesis" means?
A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent personified in this case by a sex starved voyeur that is Tyro.

To be perfectly honest, I'd wish nothing had been said until the deal had been signed, sealed and delivered. We've been through all this before and if it doesn't come off it leads to nothing but more bitter disappointment.

No chance of getting Jevons. He's a Northern lad through and through, that's why he didn't settle at Bristol City. I'd rather someone a bit younger anyway. People mentioning Le Fondre need their brains examined.

I agree with Marvo.
So do I. We've been through this loop a number of time before, each and every one ends in disappointment. Until I see them holding or wearing a Cobblers shirt I will not get my hopes up too high.

Strange that he should do so well at Yeovil then.

Good point Trotty. My New Years Resolution is to spend more time statting up on Wikipedia so I can challenge the likes of you and Marvo in the stat stakes!

I'd be surprised if it's not some sort of physical presence we're looking at. Zola and Sinclair seem pretty decent bets. Kabba did very well against us too, think he was injured for a while though.

How about Manset from Hereford? I remember that he was one of their key players in the 4 goal comeback against us. He is certainly a physical presence, and I'm sure that we could afford him.

Funny one, Manset - I also thought he looked really good against us, but he came off the bench in that side (remember how bad they were in the first half) and his goal that day was his first of the season after 11 games, and four yellow cards...who knows, has to be a bit of a long shot...

manset isnt really rated by hereford fans , i think his performance was as much a shock to them as it was to us. Zola would be a bad call i think , asking for trouble with injuries and i have always felt he is overrated. although on his day hes a beast
I on the other hand would be over the f@C#.:+ moon if we signed harrad or jevons. both are class acts , and we could hold on to them for a couple of years if we signed them.

I wouldn’t get too carried away, it could be a Mickey Mouse bid which the other club will laugh off... but fingers crossed!
As it’s a ‘take it or leave it offer’ I personally think it’s for Zola, he wants out of Crewe and Crewe want him out.
