I cant see the pitch being that bad, maybe it's just the 'surrounding areas'?

If we have no more snow between now and Saturday, it should all be gone by then anyway. Temperatures are due to pick up before the end of the week.

They called a game off a few seasons ago due to icy conditions acround the stadium rather than the pitch intself being in an unplaybale condition. Wouldn't be suprised if the same happened again on Saturday.

I suppose "pick up" is a relative term. Northampton is forecast -4 for Friday night, we're due -5 and still beneath zero during the day. The Lakes, where I'll be for the weekend, is forecast -14 at valley level overnight Friday into Saturday. I'm fairly confident that the snow we have here (30cm) will still be here when I get back from France in January. Now where's that "Its freezing" thread from the Hotelend classics section?

If the pitch has been covered then it should be playable. Even though the forecast is due to rise a bit above freezing for Saturday, I don't think the temps will be high enough to melt packed down snow that quickly, but really with the small amount of snow we've had, the match really should go ahead. As for freezing, Northampton has been colder day and night than Newcastle for 6 out of the past 8 days. These are not predicted temperatures but are fact.

It's all about the access and egress, there shouldn't be any problems attall with the pitch. Road temperatures are down at -10c tonight and not due to get above -5c all weekend. Even if the footpaths and car parks are salted, it will still take a fair amount of foot and vehicle trafficking to break up the compacted snow and ice. My prediction is the game will be called off for this reason.

For what its worth i also think the game will be called off due to surrounding areas...the west car park is like an ice rink.

Don't panic Mr Mainwaring, the Weather centre said it should be above freezing and the club say they do not require a pitch inspection. Calm down, calm down and enjoy the 3 points Saturday......we bl**dy well need them.....no excuses!!!

I was down at club this pm. Match is on - unless mega change in forecast.
They've got delivery of grit tomorrow - which I understand is for west car park and approaches - rather than for our teeth!!
50/50 Phil
PS Bimey I thought my club job was just the lottery, not the weather forecast as well! They said they'd pay me double - which makes it nice round figure!
