Exactly what I thought when saw the article - experienced striker who could handle L2 defenders and although not great record as Pompey could well be key piece to involve Holmes, D'Ath etc and help ball stick up top.

If a player and league club could mutually terminate their contract and the player move to another league club there would be no point in just a transfer window. Players could move all year round.

Yes, that's how it works. . . . . . . . the point of the transfer window being that you can't sign a player that another clubs already has under contract, and wants to keep. If a club doesn't want a player, they can agree to terminate his deal so that he can find employment elsewhere.
