We cannot retireve the previous similar thread but just for Bingers, here is a new version. By the way it is only -6 here and lots of snow also. Just cost me €1000 for winter tyres which have just been made compulsory by law without any days of grace until 31 Mar. €40 and a point if you are without winter tyres, €60 and 2 if you hold up traffic or wheels skid (without winter tyres) and a great deal more if you are involved in an accident without. German equivalents of Quik-fit are having a field day/weeks.

We've have 30 cm of snow on the ground, only slight flurries today. The schools all got sent home at lunchtime yesterday due to worsening conditions and are all closed today as staff can't get in. Some took many hours to get home yesterday.
I'm going to use my snow chains later on to get to the supermarket.
Its forecast for -10 tonight, but all looks glorious when the sun is out.
I love the snow!

The snow was heavy here in Northampton earlier but has now stopped and the sun keeps coming out. This morning was the first time I didn't have to scrape any ice off my car.

It was a parky 17 degrees here when I took Sing Jnr to school. To get that into perspective that a whopping 33 degrees cooler than the summer and it will be down to single figures soon, so to us it feels bloody cold.

Here in the North West we have had about an inch of snow which has now turned to ice. It looks pretty but is actually just rubbishly dangerous. This morning I had great fun driving out of my close without playing dodgems with the parked cars! we have had a low of -6 so far. Singcob, I envy you you lucky b*stard!

Hardly any snow here in Bedfordshire but the road from Junction 13 to Bedford is now open

Lots of snow in Kent, don't have a ruler so I'll guess 1 foot on snow.

German equivalents of Quik-fit are having a field day/weeks. That all sounds typically German - my brother-in-law lives there...when they wanted to name their children they were supposed to stick to a governnment-approved list of names, so had to have special dispensation to use a Welsh name for one of the girls, which was only approved after they went through a process to prove some Welsh genetic lineage! The self-same Germany where the nighbours call out the police to you if you use your lawnmower on a Sunday. Or if you put your recycling materials in the wrong box! Personally I think a little anarchy is sometimes good for the soul.

I don't know about the naming bit but.. Lawnmowers (any noise) or hanging washing out on a Sunday or Bank Holiday is a no-no. Shops do not open on Sundays or Bank Holidays. Can only wash your car in a car wash or specified area to prevent water table pollution. Only three recycle bins but you have to adhere to the correct waste in the correct bin. Speed camera's hidden, if you get caught you were speeding so pay up. No speed limit on the autobahns, only advisory, however if there is a limit displayed do not exceed or you will be hammered. You must clear the snow from outside your house, if someone slips etc. on your 'area' you are liable. Don't mess with the Polizei, they will draw their weapons. You must carry ID documents with you at all times, doubles up as the passport. A referral from your GP to see a consultant happens the same day, not six months later. Thats all that I can think of from the top of my head... Once you get used to it, it is a great environment to live especially the fact that Sundays and Bank Holidays are a day of rest... Not looking forward to having to come back.

Once you get used to it, it is a great environment to live especially the fact that Sundays and Bank Holidays are a day of rest... Ah, happy days, spent a couple of years there in late 80s, cheers for memories. Deepcut is there still the same rule at cross-roads which have no road markings and no give way or slow signs? It used to be 'give way to right or was it left!!?', but an impasse if 4 cars arrive at junction at same time from each direction - happened a lot in our locale. Rule was: German cars go first then Brits always wait until last - as politzei will get you - espeically if there's a collision! So, we used to sit back and enjoy fun game - Who has priority amongst: Mercs, BMW, Audi, or VW ! as they all edge forward....also classic german humour! 50/50 Phil

Yep, they've been storing it in a warehouse in Teyn, they'll be spreading it around the county this week at some point.
According to Pitsford Weather Station we are due some prolonged snow showers on Friday night, this i would suspect will put Saturdays game into major doubt.

Many sites & websites are reporting it's a forgone conclusion it'll be a White Christmas all over the UK, would be nice to see just once in my lifetime

The bastard snow is going to wait until my journey southwards in the early hours of Saturday and then dump over Kent, Calais and Belgium. I am now getting flashbacks of my journey of the same weekend last year, when it took us fifteen hours to get from Folkestone to Dover.
