It wouldn't increase the gates. The comparison with Saints doesn't work because if you are a rugby fan in, say, Suffolk or Norfolk, the Saints is your 'local' professional club. R & D are struggling to attract 1,000 for home games, same for Kettering. How many of those would bother to travel to Sixfields to watch Northamptonshire FC. The only way to increase the gates is to rise up the table and through the divisions. If a billionaire arrived tomorrow he could achieve this through NTFC as easily as through an amalgamated club. If no knight in shining armour arrives it won't happen, regardless of our name or amalgamations.

"Every Cobblers player is a potential hero, not the villain some portray him as" (to the sound of 'All Together Now').

A previous club secretary told me only half season ticket holders come from Northampton. Where we sit fans around us are from Nottingham, Lincoln, Wellingborough, Luton, Rushden, Milton Keynes and yes two from Northampton. I hear Saints season ticket holders are even a lower percentage from Northampton!

Good debate Ted but it won't work.
A merger would put us in the same pot as the Dons scum and wouldn't guarantee any success. Also, look at Wigan fans, Blackpool fans, Bradford fans, Hull fans, Barnsley fans etc... did they ever think there was a chance that their club would never play in the Premiership? If we were to rise, we would be playing in front of sell out crowds (of hopefully more the 7,500...)
Money talks in this game sadly, it is really the only way forward...sadly.
