Great signing, a player who is really above this level.

At 29 he's probably around the peak of his career as a full-back, and he's very experienced both at this level and the level above. Surprises me that he'd drop down to this level and I'm also surprised that Wilder has clearly decided to chuck a fair amount of money at a new left back, but you'll struggle to find a better full back pairing than Buchanan and Moloney at this level.

Believe he was first choice at PNE until he got injured and couldn't force his way back in to the starting line up.

He was competing with Scott Laird for a place over the last couple of seasons, think Buchanan's more defensive whereas Laird is more of a wing back and Grayson used to rotate them depending on who they were playing. He got an injury, Laird hit a good run of form and they decided to keep the defence as settled as possible when it came to the squeaky bum time of the season.

Welcome aboard. He sounds a solid defender and averages a goal every 189 games

Buchanan was the left back for the start of season, he got injured and then Preston started playing 5 at the back and Scott Laird was more suited to the wing back role.

Our starting 11 is looking very strong, definitely improving on last season. Just need the goalkeeper sorting and I'd say it is complete?
Rest of the squad to be made up later in the window I'd assume.

Doesn't mention length of contract? Keeper/centre half and a cover for rico (although I'd also like a centre mid) and were good to go!

Keeper & striker cover are now all that remains - but what I'm impressed with is that we are getting the squad together early which I think is pivitol to a good start - previous dismal seasons have seen players first meeting each other at 15.00 on the first Saturday of the season.

Ive been chatting on the Preston forum that someone posted a link to earlier in this thread.
By the sounds of it, Preston had 3 very good LBs and they were rotated. Some of them kept mentioning a FA Cup win over Norwich and Buchanan was MOM. What kind of lets him down is pace and going forward and the form of Scott Laird towards the end of the season. Apparently very solid definitively.
All said they are surprised he has dropped down to L2.
Suppose this means that Newey wont be coming back for pre season and also question marks over the future of Evan Horwood

Very Solid at this level, played for Bury with Knill as did Nicky Adams.
They all seem surprised he has dropped down to league two, so hopefully he is of a league one standard.

When Buchanan got MOTM against Norwich in the FA Cup, he kept Nathan Redmond in his back pocket the entire game.
If he can do that to Nathan Redmond, he will be an excellent signing at this level.

Was talking to my dad when this got announced and BU BU BUCHANAN were his first words
If he's as highly rated as everyone seems to think (PNE fans) we could have an absolutely great signing on our hands.
Another central midfielder, another striker, 2 keepers and we'd be pretty much there.

I'm liking your Dad. We were lucky to have been around to see John Buchanan's skills, shot and temper. Bu, Bu, Buchanan.
