Has anyone seen this? http://m.northantstelegraph.co.uk/news/top-stories/diamonds-refused-permission-to-retire-dale-roberts-number-1-shirt-1-6892355The UCL are insisting that AFC R&D reinstate the number 1 shirt that they retired in honour of Dale Roberts because the league rules say the starting goalkeeper has to wear number 1 on his shirt. What possible benefit is there to enforcing this rule? It's just bureaucracy for the sake of it and rides roughshod over a nice gesture on the part of the club and is, frankly, an insult to Roberts' family. Ridiculous.

It's the Southern League rather than the UCL (Diamonds got promoted last season, hence why they've had to reapply for dispensation to retire the shirt). But yeah it's a joke.

I'm sure the guys mum and dad have more to grieve over than whether afc goalkeeper has 1 on his shirt or not but yes the league are being insensitive. Fair play to the club though they are ignoring the league and facing the consequences not so plastic now it seems.
