£44 return from Leicester to Bristol Parkway, is it walkable from there does anyone know? And how long?
No fella, not walkable - well in the practical sense! Reckon would take 30 mins...but not lined with pubs! As said, buses go from Parkway to past the ground. Next to Parkway station are two pubs (one if still open behind Stoke Gifford Church)...other can't miss. Wellington Pub a few minutes from ground. Buses back to Parkway fairly frequent after...up hill from away end, turn right and buses in that direction!

Decision day today! a 30 min walk for a man of my fitness is no problem. Especially if there's a couple of pubs next to Parkway station. Not too bothered about going into the city as I'm staying in Bristol over Bank Holiday.

I've got 5 mates coming down to Bristol for the weekend stopping at Chez Poggy.
A weekend of cultural sight-seeing, visiting local tourist attractions, Cobblers and a sensible couple of nights on the pi55 awaits.
I'm so excited about my first visit to Chez Poggy, I'll even make a rare post on this wonderful message board. Can't wait for a nice, sensible evening in Bristol.

I think you might want to allow more time if your walking from Bristol Parkway. I think it's about 3miles and you wouldn't want to miss KO!

Probably best to avoid The Bulldog pub for anyone coming via the Filton Avenue route. Very unpleasant boozer.
We'll be drinking on the Gloucester Road pre-match (preferably somewhere showing the cricket) and then on to some King Street bars in the evening.
I played cricket the other week next to an estate pub aptly named The Jolly Cobbler however that's over the side of the city. And after previous experiences, I'm a bit dubious about pubs that have Jolly in their names.

There's a quiz, sing song , pass the parcel , all super duper fun but still very cheap as long of course you can make one of the five pick up points. Sometimes even Marvo is on the coach! Cheryl hands out the Quality Street!
Thanks but this sounds bit of a strain f*** off I think I'll take f*** off you c*** the safer option,

Why would you not get a bus from outside the station that runs about every 15-20 mins?

Fella, Apple Cider Barge afterwards...maybe Beer Emporium...finishing hopefully at Seven Stars. 8pm or possibly 9pm train back!

Why would you not get a bus from outside the station that runs about every 15-20 mins? I will if they are not too affected by traffic after the game. I will be on advance fares so will not get a choice of train (going for the 19:09 I think).

You'll easy get the 19.09 even with traffic. In my experience, traffic is heavy on Gloucester Rd going into the city centre (opposite direction) but out of town towards Stoke Gifford and Parkway thins out pretty quickly though coming out of the Mem. Don't walk though! Wouldn't say 3 but certainly best part of 2 miles!

After trying a few permutations found a fare about £33 via Birmingham and Worcester. Not the most direct route but it's an adventure! There's decent connections throughout leaving Castle station at 08:25 arrive back at 10:33 and staying in teyn overnight. So the pubs outside Parkway it will be then. As for the game itself. Was only thinking just now we don't ever do much good there do we? And with them back in the League it's an interesting benchmark for a first game. As a confidence giver there's more riding on this season's first game than there has been in the past few years in my opinion.

It's probably the most difficult opening fixture anybody could have been given. They'll be bang up for it on and off the pitch and newly promoted teams often do very well with the momentum they carry. Think we'll do well to get a draw and I imagine that will be the teams intention as well.

Actually think because all of the above, we'll come away with something...remember Mansfield at the Mem in their last league game!
