http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/local/600_people_to_lose_their_jobs_as_massive_cuts_are_announced_at_county_hall_1_1949036

Let the cuts begin. 600 jobs to go at the County Council. I'm just waiting for the right wing idiots to come on here and argue that it is good to have no libraries, turn off street lights, sack lolly pop ladies etc. You can't even have a **** in public toilets any more.

I can't wait for the "Big Society" to turn round and bite Cameron and his Bullingdon buddies in the arse

You should be applauding Cameron not castigating him. He's picking up the pieces of an abomination left by a Labour Government that did its level best to destroy this country. I just hope that the Conservatives can rescue the situation by implementing these necessary cuts. The has been far too many  enjoying cushy jobs in non productive industries and also lazy bas**rds who have had no intention of getting a job., and it's about time they took their place in the real world. Of course there'll be innocent casualties, there always is in a war.And believe me, this is a war, a war against freeloaders who , for far too long, have taken without putting bugger all in.

So the Labour government were responsible for the Sub Prime property crash in the U.S.A or the Euro being on it's Knees? It's a worldwide problem not something you can pin on the Gordon Brown so Cameron can dismantle the public sector and throw millions of working class people to the wolves.

Can you explain to me how people that work in Libraries and clean toilets are somehow workshy? Not even a Thatcherite lunatic like yourself Ted can really believe that closing Libraries is a good thing.

Financial 'crashes' happened periodically throughout the twentieth century. However, the ability to sustain an economy during one of these crashes is the responsibility of the Government who are in power at the time. The Labour government wasted untold amounts of money funding futile wars, unnecessary quangos and pointless bureaucracy. Unfortunately it's the succeeding who has to try and sort out the mess, and also unfortunately, has to take the brunt of the displeasure that goes with it.Only fools will blame the present government for the present predicament.

I manage a mental health charity supporting socially excluded people. We rely on NCC funding as we lost 90% of our funding earlier this year. This news will lead to the dismantling of a number of teams that have done a good job in the social care sector. The cuts will no doubt lead to our funding being cut, the death of our organisation, a loss of jobs for a group of hard working people and numerous people with mental health problems left to suffer in silence. I agree that a huge part of the blame lies at Labours door. However, if the Tories got their house in order they'd also be targeting the greedy, self obsessed bankers  Angry

I think MPs pay is probably about right, they work incredibly long hours and they do work hard even if sometimes it doesn't seem so. Councillors on the other hand, like the ones over in Norfolk on over £200,000 a year well yes, that should be cut. How can somebody running a poxy county like Norfolk earn more than the PM?

Cuts appear to be for lolly pop ladies, libraries, street lights, 4.2 million from adult social services, helping people with learning disabilities live in the community.

The cuts are terrible but worse are the apologists who will make out that these services aren't worthwhile

We all knew the cuts were coming, but these seem as ideologically driven as anything this coalition govt. has done this far. Its the poor (libraries), young (lolipops), disabled (charity funding etc) and elderly (libraries, bus funding) that will suffer most as usual. And do we really expect the 600 people about to lose their jobs to find either non existent private sector jobs, or act in the interests of the Big Society and do jobs they were previously paid for as volunteers? Pass me the lolipop stick.

You've probably not noticed Ted but the whole world has been hit, many like Greece & Ireland far worse than we have. Do you really think ANY government of any creed could have escaped this worldwide crash unscathed? Labour may have been inept but you can't imagine them proposing cuts deliberately targeting those less well off.

With inflation rising (with interest rates sure to follow) and unemployment also on the up, we're once again seeing the Tories for what they are. However thankfully it will be short lived as as sure as eggs are eggs they'll be kicked out at the next election.

Yes, Greece and Ireland far worse than we have. However, the vast majority have been hit far less than we have, largely because of the failings of our own Government highlighted above. I also beg to differ regarding the Conservatives beinh kicked out at the next general election.By whom are they going to be replaced ? It ain't going to be the Lib Dems, who are virtually finished as a party after surrendering their policies just to get a small portion of  power, and it ain't going to be Red Ed and his bunch of Trade Union buddies, because the thought of a lefty government scares the hell out of normal minded folk. No, we've all got to pull together and ride out this storm, and we've all got to make those little sacrifices to help make a better Britain.

I'm surprised that Wollaston had a library in the first place, as most of the inhabitants are illiterate.

Of course, the people of Wollaston will be too thick to take offence to that, or perhaps astounded by your brilliant attempts at comedy.

People like to moan about these things without taking into account that half of these smaller libraries are near to empty for long stretches these days. Some would argue that a free library service is essential, but for me in these tough times I don't see why there can't be a small fee per year to help keep them going, doubt it would deter that many people. Infact, in today's society it's very rare to get something for nothing. I think people would be very surprised if they knew how much it costs the library per each lender.

The latest opinion poll for you/gov shows the Labour party ahead which would translate if they had an election today to a 10 seat majority for "Red Ed". Now of course we're not going to have an election today but from what I can see things are hardly going to get better for the Tories over the next couple of years as their cuts take bite.
Sorry to disappoint you Ted but your happiness is going to be short lived.
