The 'potential' of the Cobblers support has always been that it is the county team. Therefore besides Northamptons 250,000 population you have another 250,000 + to tap into from Wellingborough, Kettering, Daventry, plus original MK population (25 years ago 25% of season tickets had MK postcodes!).
Our group of season ticket holders travel from, Luton, Wellingborough, Nottingham, MK, Rushden.........ironically not one lives in Northampton!
I fear for our immediate future if the takeover fails to happen BUT if half the rumours are true of the consortiums plans then we have half a chance of sustaining Championship/ top of League 1 football with 10K+ crowds................I've nothing left to cross!

Where the hell are the new fans coming from?.
Cram them into an unfinished ground, expand the away end?
The day Franchise FC moved in to the area, that was us done for.
Before they arrived, this was one of the largest catchment areas for a single team..Now look...Franchise have large stadium, more publicity and more money...

We are where we are because thats our level, we could have a larger ground 20K, then we all have 4 seats each. Look at Darlington, big ground, then finished.

Unless we get a sugar daddy then thats it, Oh wait...did we not have the chance some years ago, before Diamonds were formed, what was that guys name...Griggs or something..

Yes, Barnet's little bar behind the stand was great, with Sky Sports. Doesn't need to be much, but I would bet that little bar makes £100k profit for the season and funds one players wages for the season, especially as you can also get a pint at half time. Really frustrating that something so basic isn't added for Sixfields, even a bigger bar for home fans. I thought we were getting somewhere with the decking, whatever happened to that? As it is The Walter Tull and The Sixfields Taven are probably taking an extra £5k per week in takings that could be coming our way.
All these points have been made to the club by the Trust, but the club would rather franchise everything out and make £10,000* and sit on their arse than put some effort into running the bars and make £50,000*

In which case we can only hope that if the club comes under new ownership the new owners see things differently.

And looked what happened to R & D when Griggs left. If you rely on a sole benefactor to fund the club and they clear off then you're done for.

or look at Swansea hull reading Cardiff..... And I wish people would stop using Darlington as an example. They were run by an actual crook as a vanity project. Hence The Reynolds Stadium with its red and black seats, the same colour as Reynolds favourite team, sunderland.

Much as I loath both Winkleman & MK - its not their fault the situation we find ourselves in.

They had a long term plan and executed it - yes they had wealthy backing but nothing to suggest more so than us. They however focused on building a football club albeit from a thoroughly disgraceful starting point - but they cooperated properly with the local council, they marketed relentlessly in the area, they had a plan for a great stadium with designs and contacts to host other events. They and I repeat had a clear long term plan and executed it.

We on the other hand started from arguably a better place with a core of support but there was always one eye on the development, rarely a bold progressive mood for the football club, our idea to work with council contacts appeared to be to employ Tony Clarke as GM. There were years of talks of a stadium improvement but it now seems questionable there was even an approved or agreed design at the time or even now. Occasional minor tinkering (but very much lower league stuff) but nothing to improve the match day experience.

Having said that and one of the paradox's here is Luton Town - same distance to MK & much closer to the big London clubs, s***ty stadium, several years non-league and no great shakes now but still getting gates of 8 to 9K

Will we ever be a big club? - unfortunately no - other than a hard core of great supporters and few loyal and underpaid staff at the club the current outlook on being a big club looks somewhat grey.

Reading may not be a decent example now - owner desperate too sell! Not sure about Cardiff too.

If it's good enough for Sky Sports player analysis surely we can use it.

Yes, we have a chance of becoming a big club.

It's not impossible for us to be a big club however as stated numerous times by others, investment is needed. Maybe if we could get hold of £12million, expand the stadium to say 10-12000, with loads of extra corporate facilitiies too then this would give us the infrastructure to move forward and make a concerted effort to be a top half League One side before making the next step and expanding further..............oh hang on we had hold of £12million over a year ago. We haven't used that very well have we  Huh? And that's what really irks me now and has tested my commitment to the cause.

We'll most likely be a small club on the edge of a big housing estate some day...

Would it be appropriate to include a free 10 year season ticket in the east stand on new purchases to boost the crowds?  Grin

I'm no surveyor but every time I glance at the land behind the East Stand it looks smaller - 200 houses? - I don't think so...........

Fair amount of utter tosh there!

The truth hurts does it?

We are still lucky to be in the league on the last few seasons performance's.

To climb the leagues we require the following,

Money (Euro Millions Winner Preferred for each season)
Manager who is loyal (Like Eddie Howe)
Home grown players (Can league 2 rejects actually change into Maradona's)
 Attendance (7K home games)

No doubt IF ever we made the Championship, it would have been renamed Premier 2 to keep TV money to the elite clubs, with certain ground capacity rules.

I don't buy this......I just don't think the MK effect is as big as some believe! Take a trip down to Northampton station on a Saturday morning......you'll see Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham fans heading to London, I dont think i've ever seen an MK "fan" there...at least not one who is not afraid to show his colours!

The numbers we have lost from the villages to the south of the town should have been compensated for the numbers of Kettering and Rushden fans we could have picked up when their clubs went to the wall! Diamonds used to get 3000 gates....where did all those people go?

Far more of an effect on our support is The Saints, top class product (albeit expensive), top stadium and a decent DAY out, I say day because there are many hundreds who go there early, drink at or around the ground for a couple of hours before and a couple of hours afterwards. Its an event rather than just a game. NTFC offer nothing to make the fans arrive before 2:45pm and nothing to make then stay after 4:50pm.

So for me, The Saints and PRemier League football (whether live or on TV) are a drain on our ability to attract crowds at fourth division level. However, get things right on and off the pitch, establish ourselves in the Championship and we can get people in, i'm pretty sure of that. Like most things, provide a quality product and a quality service and you'll get the customers, don't and you'll lose them!
