We have had a number of great right backs but very few great left backs, interesting really.

The only ones I can remember from my earlier years were Eric Brookes, Barry Tucker, Alan Oman and Phil Neal occasionally.

If you saw the Carr team play surely Richard Hill has to be in your all time team. Those late surging runs from midfield being finished off with goal after goal... So lucky to have witnessed it.

Few controversial ones in there like Carruthers (He was the first right back that came into my mind) I remember watching him at the time thinking he was amazing and would have a great career but it went a bit down hill after he left us. I may have had my claret tinted glasses on when it came to judging his ability  Grin

Carruthers, the left back?

I too thought he had a great career ahead of him. Shame he never really got going.

Yeah that's the one! I couldn't remember if he was a left or right back. He left us for Bristol and then slowly disappeared into the ibis. Im sure he played at England U19 level too?

Surely it has to be the 4th Division championship team, with a few exceptions -

                            Keith Welch

Russell Wilcox    Ray Warburton   Keith Mcpherson

Eddie McGoldrick                                                  Phil Chard
                             Warren Donald

Ian Benjamin           Richard Hill       David Gilbert

                               Trevor Morley

Subs - Mark Bunn, Ian Sampson, Austin Hayes (I have great memories of him, when I was a kid), Jamie Forrester, George Reilly, Bayo Akinfenwa, John Frain.

How on earth did I not find room for -

Bobby Barnes, Martin Smith, Marco Gabbiadini, Ian Taylor, Sean Dyche, John Hodge, Rambo Reed, Michael Jacobs etc, etc, etc.

Can we have 1st Eleven against 2nd's. We've had some cracking players over the years, but very little success to go with it.

Theo Foley was the best left back we've had. Although Phil Neale played there occasionally.

Full marks for Michael Warner Monkey. And I'm serious about that.

I never understood why Ali Gibb always got in ahead of him. I'm sure there was a reason and it was a few years ago now but I'm pretty sure every time he played he looked class.

Don't remember Eric Brookes and don't remember seeing Phil Neal at left back (though was very young and only saw him play a few times for the Cobblers). Barry Tucker was OK but nothing special IMO and Alan Oman was dire.
