I am sure some kind hearted and free thinking fan of ours will do this only to be shouted down by the brainless Daily Mail / Sun readers, of which I am very sure that we have a few. Good on you Air-Dan on making the suggestion. Or ones that read the Mirror/Guardian!

We've taken less than 300 Syrian refugees so far from this current crisis. Overall, by the end of 2014, the population of refugees, pending asylum cases and stateless persons made up just 0.24% of the population. That’s 117,161 refugees, 36,383 pending asylum cases and 16 stateless persons. Is that too many? Did towns and villages across the country say "Enough is enough" during the war when train loads of evacuees turned up?
"Did towns and villages across the country say "Enough is enough" during the war when train loads of evacuees turned up?"Thought the Government of the time suggested "we are all in this together" - and most of the evacuees where children. Unlike you to omit a few relevant facts when making your comment

A lot of people claim not to be Daily Mail/Sun readers, I wonder who does actually read them when they have easily been the two largest circulation newspapers for the past 15 years, more than all of the others combined?

As nice a thought as it is, I don't think it will impact the decision made by the government. Sadly. But happy to support.
Personally I don't know what affect letting in more refugees will have on the current state of our economy/nhs etc, but given the seriousness of the situation I find it hard to believe that we cannot do more to help.

Oh dear.
Never has there been a thread more suited for people to show their ignorance and bigotry or for that matter their pomposity.
For what its worth and to be fair to all, I dont think theres any one in their right mind who doesnt want to see something done to help those caught in this situation. But, and there is a but, whatever is done has to be thought through and be sustainable. Whether we like it or not, some of the hardliners do have a semblance of a point; we dont have limitless resources and it cant be a free for all. I pity those responsible for having to decide what the limits need to be and who are the most genuine cases.
What I dont understand is why the sudden explosion? I appreciate theres always been asylum seekers but why suddenly so many. Maybe my view is ill informed or appears uncaring but surely not every one of those fleeing wherever are genuine asylum seekers? Surely there has to be an element that we've made ourselves such a generous and easy option that anyone who doesnt fancy where they currently live thinks they can make a case for gaining entry? Whilst I totally understand that there are places in this world where people would risk one form death to escape another, that cant surely be the situation in all these cases?
Like I say, I feel for those who have to sort this out. Its a no win situation.

Most likely none. They're fleeing the civil war. If they were extremists then they'd be fighting in the war.

You could also say we should ban Leeds fans from Sixfields the next time they visit. Most of the London 7/7 bombers came from Leeds so let's be on the safe side.

Now I think that is a bit silly, I only repeated what some people 'in the know' and have good understanding of the middle east have said.

"Most likely none"IMO you appear to have a somewhat naive understanding of the complicated situation in the Near East - if you think that mostl refugees are fleeing the war in Syria,Irag and Bactria you are mistaken.

What are they fleeing from then? Baring in mind that they're refugees and that to be a refugee you have to be fleeing war, natural disasters or persecution.

So how come no one thought to make this banner before considering the Syrian conflict is four years old?
