And here's why...

Post all the reasons you think football is now rubbish in comparison to "the old days" All the moaning old gits (like me) can tell everybody else how it was better in our day. Well tell them why here.
Simple little things or obvious things like the prices you have to pay for instance.

One relatively small thing thing I miss from County Ground days etc are proper "drop" nets. What is with these modern nets? The bloody ball pings right out of them ffs.
Far better to see an embarrassed opposing keeper squabbling about in the goal to retrieve the ball, maybe even entering into "foot caught in net routine" if he's a particular crowd pleaser (Tyler, Stannard etc).

With a very basic Sixfields suspended in a Cardoza time warp where nothing has changed for 20 years, I'm not sure what to expect from a modernised football ground as it has passed us by.

Where do I start?

1. Diving and it being described as simulation rather than cheating.
2. The general acceptance that if there's contact then a player is entitled to go over.
3. At a corner, the ball is rarely placed in the D but just outside and the player always gets away with it.
4. An assist. It's a **** pass! ''I was credited with an assist.'' Who cares?
5. Players high fiving.
6. Premiership money and the amount of non English players and managers in said league to the detriment of the national side. Not just in the first team but also the academies.
7. All seater stadiums.
8. Referees and linesmen not wearing black. Yes linesmen, not referees assistants.
9. Clubs disrespecting the League Cup and F.A. Cup just so they can stay in the premiership or get into the top 4 so they make more money so they can buy another forward from Argentina or Italy so they can stay up or get into the top 4 next season. And so it goes on season after season.
10. Teams wearing an away kit when there's no clash of colours.

There. Anything else you want to know?

You forgot badge kissing and the sliding on knees goal celebration.

I find it very peculiar that people get annoyed with this one.

Especially as you don't have to place the ball in the D, it just has to touch the line.

So balls just need to touch the tip of the D?

Yeah, anywhere from the base of the pole right to the tip.

I for one am VERY disappointed that I can't ogle the sixpacks of professional sportspeople after they have scored a goal.  Definitely with you on that one Alistair.

Pretty much with Baldy on most of these, but what about foul throws, nobody gives them anymore there must be at least half a dozen every match !!

Blimey I forgot about foul throws.

11. Foul throws! International footballers can't even take a throw in!!! How many times have I shouted that at the telly over the last few years? I'll tell you. 7,443! I'm also known to regularly shout ''foul throw'' very loudly of a Sunday morning whilst watching my son's team play. Why do they do it? Because of the example set by a bunch of overpaid cheats they watch on telly.

12. The fact that they're all overpaid cheats? Obviously apart from all players at NTFC, Messi and Bayo!

13 - That lazy wander back from an offside position. - You know the one, where a forward runs through on goal, messes up, then as the defence push up the striker ambles back towards the half way line. His team win the ball back, lob it over the top of the outrushing defence for the forward to run on to it. . . . oh, he's offside. . .REALLY winds me up! Laziness, and wouldn't have happened 20 years ago

The amount of time added on. Why don't the just make the games 95 minutes long?

Rolling about on the floor like you're dying and then hopping up and running like a scalded terrier. Send the cheats off the pitch for 5 minutes of treatment before they are allowed back on, that would soon put an end to it.

As a Club Welfare Officer for a junior football club, could I remind you that you are watching childrens' football, they sometimes make mistakes, there is already a referee and coach to act appropriately, both are volunteers and finally, it is not a vitally important Cobblers League match - it really doesn't matter, they are there to have fun, not get shouted at by a balding middle age man.

Other than that, standards are important aren't they.  Keep them back for extra throwing taking coaching after the match.
