They are for me. Couldn't give a toss about a club in The Fens more than 70 miles from me.
Oxford for me too...obviously, living there plays a part in that. Having said that, haven't played Posh for yonks in the league...not sure how much attention they now give to us. Oxford's derby is Swindon, though they think they're above having any rivalry with us!

As an old fart it will always be Boro' (spit!). Nothing will ever beat the 3.5K we took on the Moyes End and you just lifted your feet and surfed. Years of rucking like the 'Battle of Abingdon Park' means always Boro'!

After a couple of League or Cup games I can see Franchise FC becoming the local derby but we are from the East of the county so not Oxford.

Pish all the way!! Despite the fact we havent played them for ages! I remember a Johnstones Paint Pot game against them a good few years ago, nearly a thousand Cobblers fans travelled, what other club would we do that for??
They are my rivals, anyone over the age of about 30 would consider them to be the big rivals. We had Rushden and Diamonds pushing them close for a few years, MK Dongs now perhaps, but Poxford?? No not really!

I can't believe it is even up for debate?
Sammo's shinner
Chard's penalty
5-0 away in the 80s
The Moyes Terrace (?)
The car park under the arches with the pay point in bits on the floor
Even Culpin's goal for them in front of Hotel End
I'm sure there's a few more tasty memories too
It depends where you live. Living in Leicester (as I did for 15yrs) doesn't really expose you to the local rivalry side. Used to hate LCFC far more than Posh when I lived there...just having to put up with their lads and silly biased Leicester Mercury! Some Oxford hate Reading more than Swindon, living in places like Newbury and Wokingham. Likewise, Beds Cobb has to put up with Luton, which should qualify him for psychiatric help!  Grin

Pish for me too, like Grange says ,most over the age of 30 hate them with a passion. We regularly played them in the 70's/80's with some tasty events both on and off the pitch.Hopefully will be a regular fixture again soon.

Exactly this! Get's right on my tits this we're a big club brought low by bad men, bad luck, and the whole world being against us. This and the fact that they seem to think Northampton is some sort of Northern hell hole, whilst their ground nestles between the Parks and the Bodleian. Ha!

Quote from: BedsCobb on Today at 12:59:28

I enjoy all local games against all clubs from neighboring counties.
This Peterborough rivalry has got a bit old hat and seriously one sided as they tend to play at a higher level and have taken to being rivals of mk down the road.

Pompey have a similar problem with Southampton and them taking Bornmuff as their current rivals?

Scumhampton would never look on Bournemouth as proper rivals. It'll always be them and us. Having said that we don't look like we'll be in the same league as them for a bit. But who knows, we're financially sound now so we've got to be an attractive proposition for some rich mans play thing. FP is under developed so would a lot of investment but we are a fairly well supported club with a huge population to draw on. Who knows what round the corner. I never dreamed we'd ever be playing in this league ,not meaning to sound arrogant. Look what's happening to you!

Swindon had over a thousand at Oxford this season for JPT. Was at that Boro game but nothing special in all honesty in taking a thousand to local rivals *. Be careful, we'll be having our Pompey guest giggling!

* Unless you are Fleetwood Town!

I'm pretty sure  for that JPT game it was near on 3,000, not a thousand we took! There was a constant stream of traffic from Thrapston to P'boro and we missed the first 20 minutes due to the queue's to get in at the turnstiles.  I was with my stepson who wasn't that old and as the Moyes was almost full, we stood in one of the bottom corners .

Edit to say, just googled this game;

Score   2-1 to Peterborough United
Competition   Auto Windscreens Shield Quarter-final - southern section
Attendance   5,516

I think we made up about half of the crowd that night.

It was definitely over 2,000. I sat down the side and remember the terrace looking pretty full.

It's been about 7 years since we played them in a competitive game. I guarantee you a lot of our fans have never even seen us play them.

While we're on this subject, I f***ing hate Barnet.

Its a shame that many fans won't have experienced Cobblers fans in full flow on Moyes Terrace.
As for Barnet yeh ever since Barry Fat Fry and his red shorts!

Blimey, thats 17 years ago!! Thanks for reminding me, indeed it was a lot more than a thousand...I remember getting there early and for quite a while there was only one turnstile open, staff were saying something along the lines of "we never realised you'd bring so many".......a lot of people were late into the ground!!

I'm completely bored with the most one sided very rarely played over 40miles away fake 'derby' with Peterborough.... Its dead move on, if Cov city fail to get promotion they'll be looking for rivals

Once we get our act together its going to be Mk in future years I suspect.

Exactly right anyone whose been supporting the Cobbs since the sixties it was Coventry then it evolved into the Posh as we stopped playing Cov for so many years.
If we dont play Posh for much longer it will evolve again into a team that's not far away and we  play them regularly. Could be MK Dongs or Poxford or even Cambridge or dare I say Wycombe. It's a local team who you play regularly. As the generations change, if you don't play them regularly, they don't know who they are. It's only the older ones who remember the old rivalries.

It will always and only ever be Peterborough (as far as I'm concerned). Any time I'm left doubting I remind myself of the Bobby Barnes/Tony Adcock pillage... for younger fans this would be like a club taking Adam Smith and Marc Richards from us a few weeks ago, when we were absolutely on our knees, and giving us 50p for them (oh, and bunging our dodgy owner a few quid just to seal the deal (allegedly)).

So, yeah, Peterborough.

I'm with you on that one brickowski, I remember the Adcock and Barnes thing well and it still gets me annoyed even today.
