Back in the 80's when Graham Taylor was in management he was once faced with a dilemma. He desperately needed a new striker to save his managerial career but he was also in trouble with his wife, not all was rosy at home and he had promised her a holiday.
Instead of hunting for a new striker himself he decided to call one of his scouts to check out this guy from Arsenal everyone was talking about, although the line wasn't great he thought his scout understood. GT gave him a couple of million quid to spend on this player and happily he set off on holiday with his wife. Sorted.
After a couple of days the scout called GT back and explained he couldn't understand what was going on. He had bought the man GT requested and immediately got him running around the track for a fitness test. The scout explained he could only run a few paces before having to stop, wheezing and coughing, he had never seen such an unfit player in his life?
GT was stunned and immediately flew back from Costa del ****, leaving his wife fuming and went straight to the training ground to see what had happened with this multi-million pound deal.
As soon as GT arrived and saw his amazing signing for himself he understood. He called over his scout and shouted.
I said buy Rocastle not fucking Roy Castle.
And David Rocastle wasn't a striker.
