Forgive me for starting this thread so early. For various reasons which I won't go into I am only able to make one game a month. Trouble is my "free" week this month coincides with the trip to the Monkey Hangers. As a kind of belated tribute to DavCobbler I am planning what he would have described as "A Mad One" all the way to the NE. I have managed to get the train fare down from £90 odd to around £49 through spilt ticketing, however before I book what I need to know is exactly how far is Victoria Park from Hartlepool station? The key to the whole adventure pretty much requires me catching the 17:15 train away from Hartlepool, does anyone know if that is at all possible? I have a the same question out on twitter and FGG state ten minutes walk. But really need some horses mouth advice to be sure in my own mind! Also any recommended pubs would be nice too (a challenge that Coolcat will no doubt rise to!)

Train station is less than a 10 min walk from the ground. Station Bar is tiny but great! Opens exactly at 12.04pm...pretty much downhill as a day after that!

Probably best you stay a home. Going football is a pleasurable experience, win lose or draw just relax, take on copious amount of beer then head home singing last train to san Fernando ( but changed to castle station) Hope that helps.

Nowadays my "Mad Ones" have to end up back home at night even if that might be just about midnight on this occasion. As for copious amounts of alcohol, I will have a fifty minute change in York where the York Tap is thoughtfully sited on one of the platforms. Oh and it's Leicester London Road not Castle Station And thanks to CoolCat another well sited boozer to visit. Book tickets in the morning then...

Not far from the ground back to the station, you'll have no problem. Not far from the station is The Jacksons Arms, good beer, but a typical northern backstreet boozer. Not to be confused with The Ward Jackson, very near the station, which is a Wetherspoons. Next to the away end is the Raglan Quoit Club, where the head on the Camerons Strongarm will tower out of your glass.

Other than the aforementioned Station Bar, virtually next to ground (but on other side) is decent, friendly enough Cameron's pub. Wetherspoons around the corner from the station (opposite church) is actually ok...though the York Tap and the Parcel Yard next to Leicester station might be the best parts of the day!

But you must book first Are there any restrictions on what you can do on the bus during the journey?

No running, no pushing, no shouting, no smoking, no ducking, no bombing and no petting.

You forgot to inform what to do if they have a Veruca?

Before this thread disappears into the kindergarten, I can announce I have booked train tickets as far as York. A day return York to Hartlepool is £13.00 will book on the day I think, wait for the weather forecast nearer the time. well it is the North East!

I go to Hartlepool about once a fortnight and more often than not, it is sunny. It is in a bit of a rain shadow, so whilst it might not be very warm, I'm going to predict that it will be a sunny day - be prepared to give me a load of stick if it snows.

I can't say I have, but my office window looks out onto a gas rig building yard and each time they launch a new rig, it has a monkey hanging off the top of it. Old habits die hard round there.
