Would like to see Rico as number two, although I do think he still has more to offer on the pitch! Not sure how well a player / assistant manager role would work!

Speculation yes but perhaps also based on the fact he is doing his badges and only fairly recently moved his family down here - unlikely he did that because he thought he had a 3 year plus playing contract.

If anyone fancies a long term punt I think he has the pedigree to make a top class manager in the future.
Yes fell into his lap quite nicely this one. And thats not a negative statement. A few goals again this season and a coaching role would soon elevate Rico to thee same legend level as big Bayo.

I'd like us to look long term and start to integrate Rico into the managerial shake up. Always talks well about the game and could give us the chance to actually have a blueprint of how we want to play, carried out over the years.

As for Page, very happy with the appointment, think he'll do an excellent job. Says a lot he's jumping from Vale for a newly promoted team.

I expect him to bring his assistant Paul Bodin with him.

This is absurd. Like any job, the assistant manager will be given the responsibilities and duties that his boss wants him to fulfill.

Well of course that's the case. He's there to assist the manager in whichever way the manager needs assisting.  What other reason would he be there for?!

My point was that there isn't, as Hallam's post suggested, a lift and shift job description which all assistant managers at all clubs need to be able to perform.

Just because Rico isn't a set piece routine expert, doesn't mean he can't be an effective AM

But he will have a bigger and better club/team than he had in his last appointment...

40% is usually a decent win percentage.

I would guess Rob Page's 37.% win percentage was with a club with a budget in the lowest third of league 1, with Wilders budget in the top third of league 2.

To put is another way, Rob Page, with a struggling Port Vale team (finance wise) collected an average of 62 points per season. I imagine our budget is larger than Port Vales, so if he can find another 8 points per season we will be in the playoffs.

That was completely not my point, in fact the opposite.

I was making the point that the AM's job isn't as easy as you'd think. A lot of them, like Knill, take on a lot of responsibility and are required to do a large range of tasks for the manager.
I don't think you could just put anyone in the role as it's "not that important".

I'll now share that my source also revealed that Marc Richards applied for the manager's job.  But I chose to back Rob Page.  The official announcement states that further backroom appointments to be confirmed.  We'll have to see if Rico is in the mix.

Seems like a decent appointment - done a pretty good job in this division with a comparatively low budget and KT seems like an intelligent bloke who'd make sure he appointed the right manager so as long as he doesn't overhaul the squad to make his own mark or whatever we should be fine next season.
