Theres only 1 team I would like to see (from the 92 and beyond) go bust. They are around 15 miles down the M1. I would rejoice if that ever happened. But when we play them...its totally insignificant. Losing to them bothers me less in fact than any other team because in my eyes they are irrelevant.

I would though like to see Manchester UTD hit financial problems and plummet down the leagues but not actually go bust!  Grin

As for Boro. For a day out on the jolly, the camaraderie etc...memories of Sammo's goal which we all thought was offside but somewhat disappointedly wasn't (!). The Cherry Tree. Or pre-match p1ss up in Oundle. Yep, thats the fixture Im looking forward to most next season (away one). Closely followed by trips to Sheffield UTD and Charlton, the only two grounds I haven't been to. The Wilder factor will add to Sheffield but it was 2nd on my list in any case.

As much as I will sing all the songs and join in etc (the IRA one needs scrubbing from the play list though), I don't wish them any harm. It would always be nice to have them below us but in the same division. I've missed the trips to London Road.

Strangely, I totally agree with Hallam. The way some of you bang on about Boro...probably never even met one, let alone anything else! Yes, I remember very well outside on the bridge at Posh during the game, and long into the evening but it's being dressed up a bit much by too many - perhaps by those in the Upper West who embarrassingly sing 'Bristol's a s***hole, I'd hate to live there'...clearly displaying ignorance of the highest order! If you are from Northampton or the east of the county, certainly Boro will hold more sway. Equally, derbies are built on work place bragging rights, geography as well as the traditional off the field antics so prevelant in the seventies and eighties, leaving those of us in the north, west or south of the county with differing opinions and experiences of who we are less fond of.
Key word being, what real 'experiences' do many of you have of Boro?
I suppose its not the blatant in yer face rivalry as a city derby or London would be.
But I do remember the fantastic throwback atmosphere on the Moyes Terrace. Sadly no more!

It may be a result of being a relatively younger fan (mid 90's Sixfields era) but I don't really feel any animosity to any team specifically. I only really care about the Cobblers and I couldn't give a 5h1t about the trials or tribulations of any other team.

Might you for instance chuck some cash in another clubs bucket if they had an episode like we did last autumn?
No inference just asking as many did from other clubs for us.

That is largely true I think...but definite overkill on here and in the ground, singing aye aye ippy blah blah every few minutes!

Very true  Grin

The reason we have no rivals is down to the fact we're so far behind other clubs that are local to us.
We have a non league ground.
We have no sustainable infrastructure.
We never escape league 2 albeit for a season or 2 every decade.
We have never gone head to head at the top of league 1 with any potential rivals, so never creating a rivalry.
Most of our so called rivals feel sorry for us and don't despise us as that would be cruel.
Peterborough is bloody miles away, I've only met 2 Peterborough supporters in all my life, both decent chaps.

Unless we follow all our 'would be ' rivals and build up our club and stop being subjected to every excuse known to man as to why we're not worthy of a modest redevelopment and other infrastructure to take the club forward...
We need to hope the great AFCR&D get back soon as they are our only chance if a real rivalry.

When Coventry were our rivals, Jimmy Hill changed them into the Sky Blues and their song went " proud P#sh or Cobblers, the Rangers or anyone, we will defeat them if we play till the battle is won" Or that's how I remember it.

To be fair it doesn't matter which team anyone calls our main rivals (Peterborough for me  Grin ). Next season we are playing them all, Coventry for the slighty older fans  Wink , Peterborough for my generation and MK for the 16 year old West Stand Uppers who will spend most of the match goading the MK equilvalent.

Yes the NFA used to police Peterboro, the groan of drawing a Boro team away in a 10:00 am ko in the County Sunday's cups was only matched by drawing a Corby team home or away!
I'm pretty sure the "Soke of Peterborough" was part of Northamptonshire.
The other post was correct and if we stay around MK Dons for a while we will become rivals and rightly so. Ten minutes from the edge of Northampton to the edge of MK?

I played county schools football in the late seventies and remember playing some of our home games at London rd.
