I saw "the" goal as well. Player is a different job to assistant manager therefore I cannot really make a comparison but wish him well and trust Pages appointment of him until proved wrong which I don't want to happen.

Sorry Shoey, but having a glass half-full outlook is one thing. But drilling a hole in the bottom of the glass ain't gonna help! Il bare that in mind

How exactly are they ridiculous?
Right, firstly, he was very poor when here before, yes, Shoey? So, if we were re-employing him as a player you'd be right, it would be a terrible decision, yes? But he is here in a totally different capacity, so how can you rubbish the man's ability when you have no knowledge of his coaching abilities? And as for your other point about him only playing 19 games because he was awful, didn't we once have a player called Wilder who was substituted and never deemed worth a second appearance? God forbid he'd ever been given any sort of managerial opportunity, eh?

No idea what he's like as a manager but he was absolute dogs***e as a player for us, probably the worst striker I can remember seeing in a Cobblers shirt amidst some stiff competition. I do remember my uncle inexplicably thinking he was good though. Oh well, onwards and upwards, welcome back aboard Paul!

Wilder was injured, had to be replaced at halftime. His loan spell was cancelled because of the injury.
Wilkinson 's record before coming here wasn't that bad - distinguished career at clubs like Everton, Watford & Middlesbrough.

Ganging up on Shoey...he only said that we was a rubbish player. And boy was he rubbish! Only the other day I said on twitter that him and Leon would be in a 4-4-2 as the two worst strikers I've seen play for us, although James Quinn will provide stiff (very) competition! Id also say he was dam lazy as well. He was John Gayles replacement after we lost the play off final to Grimsby. I recall being very enthused when his signing was announced as well. Deepcut says he played in a poor team...it was the team that had finished 4th the season before he joined and got to Wembley. He was the biggest reason by far it was poor...when he played we may as well have had 10 players on the pitch! Anyway, that was as a player. He may well be the best coach in the world. A fair amount of time has passed by since then as well. Thankfully. Imagine the uproar if Constantine had been announced in the role? They always say that time is a great healer! Good luck Paul. You fcuking owe us one!!

On the one hand I agree with the comments bout Wilkinson, Cobblers striker, but Barnsley have a pretty impressive academy and U21 set up, and I reckon the knowledge of players at that level will be very useful. He's coming in as assistant after all said and done, not the first team manager. When Alan Knill he arrived here, he too had a bit of a chequered cv. Let's cut Wilko and Page some slack. Hardly any signings have been made in the Prem and Championship and we've still a couple of weeks before most player contracts expire.

Paul Wilkinson was a very good player in his day, he was just past his best by a long way when he came to us, I think it's wrong to judge him by what he did here, He was a very good player, Just look at all the goals he scored for his other clubs.

Shoey made some remarks which in this instance deserved to be commented on. From your comment above have you actually read Shoeys opening post on Wilko's appointment. If not please read it again.

Yes Shoey can say the wrong thing at the wrong time sometimes. This time though people need to cut him some slack. He said Wilkinson was a sh1t signing for us as a player, he was. He said Wilkindon is a strange appointment as an assistant manager, he is. He also said he hoped it worked out, all of that I agree with 100%.

Bet you dont Shoey!
Have you actually got an opinion of your own as regards this topic? You seem very interested in my viewpoint without actually adding any value to the conversation. So far your input suggests you would rather have employed akinfenwa,a player with no managerial/coaching experience rather than PW but have not actually made any comment of your own regards the appointment. Instead your only input is to worry about other posters opinions. Man up and for once on a topic on this forum put your own viewpoint out there.

Did he? Apologies it does say a brief stint at sixfields. Not brief enough from memory. One of the worst strikers to wear the shirt in my time supporting. I guess we'll appoint Leon Constantine as fitness coach next. A **** poor appointment IMO to get back a player who was next to useless in a management capacity. Mind you he may turn out to be a good appointment so he's got my support but it is a strange appointment.
and then...
Let me quantify. I thought he was an awful player for the cobblers. I find it very odd that given his poor career here he is now employed again. I wish him every success while he is part of the team. He will have my support whilst at the club.

Surely if he wanted him to go he would have had a replacement lined up to step straight in, yet nearly a month later no new manager, seems like bulls*** to me.
