I just don't get why anyone would want to pay to see a pre-season friendly. I gave them up years ago.

I'd not worry too much Rodger, just check his previous post. They're quite often in that style

Do you travel away? I alsoo have little interest in friendlies at Sixfields...but away provides the opportunity to travel to different towns and an away day!

I share your sentiment. In some ways I wish I did get excited about them, but it bores me rigid to pay good money to watch players getting fit with zillions of substitutions. My 15-year old may end up dragging me to one, however.

I can understand people going to one to check out new players, particularly if they live nearby. A non-league venue in the evening sun is perfectly pleasant. However, there is no edge and it is a little like a date with a girl which you know will never lead to anything. You stand there waiting for the 'real thing'.

After years of boredom, despair, resignation and misery, this is unbound joy.

Agree with this. I'd go as far as saying that it's not even really "about" the game itself in the case of friendlies, though that's obviously the reason for making the trip. I'll certainly enjoy soaking up the July evening sun in Nuneaton, and checking out a couple of the local pubs, before watching the match. It's not as though prices aren't significantly reduced to reflect the lower quality of entertainment. I wouldn't expect to pay more than £4-6 to get in at Nuneaton, compared with £20+ for most league games.

It's an important revenue for clubs like Nuneaton so I wouldn't begrudge handing over a tenner or so knowing it's going towards keeping a non-league club afloat.

Yes, pay a tenner...then walk off with the £25 matchball under your jumper!

It was an NTFC match ball (at Oxford City) but weakly justified as payment for being ballboys that night. I'm still hoping another OCFC v NTFC is to be arranged this summer given KT's contacts.
