Well the Wales manager is Chris Coleman, hardly 'supposedly top table material'.
The Iceland manager is a part time dentist.
I've said for years. It makes no odds. We've had a few world class, very expensive ones at that. Capello, Sven namely two. Taylor had an amazing club record prior to his appointment (and after as well). Even McClaren won the Dutch league with some tinpot team straight after his England disaster! Hodgeson...did alright with Switzerland on the international stage.
Two that are considered successful, people forget the 'facts'.
Bobby Robson got lucky. Very. If Cameroon had knocked us out (which they should have done), history would be judging him VERY differently. Venables...if Spain had knocked us out (which again they should have done, disallowed goals which were not off side etc)...EURO96 would be seen in a totally different light!!
If it was up to me Id, not factoring in any situations at clubs etc Id go for Big Sam. Or Neil Warnock. Neither would take any sh1t and could stand up to the media when the going gets tough. They would do at least as well as any of the names on the list. For me its about handling pressure, thats the KEY. Most of us could have selected a team the other night, with only 2 or 3 max out of the starting X1 being debated by everyone. Admittedly none of us would have had Kane taking the free kicks or brought on Wiltshere for Dyer at half time though!!
