We can't go for another old coach, we a young first team coach, Eddie Howe for example, keeping Southgate at U21  getting an U18 and Schoolboys manager and having the whole thing headed up by perhaps a Glenn Hoddle.

Together with the FA they need to lay down their expectations, which can't be "win the World Cup in 2018" we so far away from that it's untrue.

We need a plan and a focus to bring through young players through the school boys, into the U18 and 21s and then the senior team and be targeting Qatar 2022 and Euro 24.

It's not getting us anywhere recycling the same format, there needs to be better cohesion between the levels that England are represented at and making sure the players are completely aware that to progress within the England set up, they will be expected to compete at tournaments at every level.

Or we can get Guus Hiddink, Jurgen Klinsmann (Enhland being managed by a German is unthinkable) and fail to turn up at the next World Cup yet again.

I broadly agree with you, the issue is I'm not sure International Football has any pull any more compared to the top leagues of club Football, certainly not for a young coach. If you want to take a coach from the Premier League you probably end up with an older coach.

A lot of what you suggest was put in place 4 years ago, there is now a plan, all age groups play the same formation / system, we won't know if this has been successful for at least 4 years I think but they shouldn't rip it up and start again before we know.

In the meantime we need a coach who will instill a clear plan and identity for the senior team for the next couple of tournaments.

Interesting times

Glenn Hoddle should not be England manager because it would deprive us all of his riveting and intellectual commentary. Just think, we could have a Glenn Hoddle and Michael Owen team one day for commentary on all England games.

You don't rate Hoddle as a pundit? I find most people I watch football seem to say the complete opposite. Always well spoken and very knowledgeable.

No, I don't. I don't rate him as a manager either. Very good player in his day though.

He has started saying that the England players need to get their heads right for when playing in tournaments: we know where that ended up last time...
