When are players like McCourt and O'Toole going to learn or be told that going to ground in a tackle invites a booking if just fractionly mistimed. With a good team but shallow squad we can not afford players missing due to suspensions. This is illustrated by their last two bookings,
O'Toole did not get to the ball quick enough and tried to make up ground by lundging into the tackle with studs showing (even though his foot was on the ground), with the current rules it invites the referee to show yellow.
McCourt has produced some lovely sliding tackles which is great to watch BUT again just slightly mistimed and you are guaranteed a booking. Is it worth the risk?.............especially on the half way line!!!!!!!!!!!
The Boro midfielders snapped into a challenge with the knee over the ball with great success whilst our midfield were guilty of dangling their leg!
Maybe Buchanan should take the next coaching session to illustrate the art of tackling!

I think a midfield of Taylor, McCourt, O'Toole and Hoskins could be influencial but we then STILL require a striker to play alongside Revell for any chances created by the midfield.

I think some of the problem is fitness / aging legs .
JJ is struggling to get around the park because he is being asked to play a more dynamic role than last year .
He is carrying a little bit of weight and is not that nimble .
Taylor just can't get there like he used to and mis times things .
McCourt just needs to refine the art a bit more otherwise he will not make it because he cannot play in any other position .

I am not arguing that mis-timed, non malicious, without studs showing tackles, often pick up yellows. But where in the rule book does it state that that should be the case?

It's poor refereeing and poor management of the game from the F.A with their stupid directives, if you ask me. If the intent is to win the ball, its not dangerous, but you slightly mis-time the tackle, its a free kick, thats it. Thats how it used to be.

You are not allowed to defend anymore for fear of being dismissed. If this trend continues, there will be no tackling in the game at all and it will be a case of 'periods of possession' with the opposition simply 'pressing' until an interception is made or the team in possesion makes a mistake or scores a goal.

Mccourts outrageous tackle against MK Dons which he had zero right to win resulted in one of my favourite goals this season. Absolutely love his style of play and personally expect/accept he will spend a few games suspended this season.

Exactly this.

I just think that when he does pick up an early booking, RP needs to manage it better and get him subbed off before sent off. That's why Byrom is in the match day squad, make use of him.

JJOT needs to play as a 'quarterback'. That is how he shone last year, sitting slightly deeper in midfield and spreading the play.

Talking of ageing legs and fitness, did anyone else notice that every Cobblers player had a blue LED light showing through their shirts (on the back just above their name) on Tuesday night? They all looked to be wearing some sort of monitoring equipment.

They've been wearing that monitoring equipment in a pocket on the back of their shirts between their shoulder blades all season as far as I know Simon. Not sure if they wore it last season.

I make no apologies for repeating my point that we are making too many errors when trying sliding tackles ie TWO penalties Saturday!
Win a knee over the ball tackle and usually you are in a position to immediately release the ball to a team mate.

Maybe RP needs to instruct the players to cut out the sliding tackle for now (even though I love to see them executed well).
