I don't understand all the Hoskins love.

As far as I can see, we've got a winger who can't finish to save his life.

Yes, he's got some good skills and can be creative, but he has a complete inability to score goals from the chances he creates. He's had 19 appearances for Town this season and scored just 1 goal. For a winger, that just isn't good enough.

If a bit of fancy footwork and a couple of good crosses is all it takes to impress Cobblers fans these days into calling you "the new Ricky Holmes", then we really are in the wilderness.

Bit harsh as he gave the Bury the run around all game;  they couldn't cope with his pace thanks to him we got the penalty!

You can't fault Hoskins lately, we all know he can't finish to save his life but he's playing really well at the moment. Not all about the goals is it.

Wasn't just the penalty though was it. All three of our goals were down to him, both free-kicks for the first & third goals he was fouled before we scored.

Maybe his goals are not coming at the moment, but given his record at youth level with Southampton (leading goalscorer at Youth levels for two years running) I think he will be a very consistent scorer at some stage, don't forget he is still only 23 years of age.

Overall play yesterday was excellent. Well done Sam.

His approach play has improved considerably BUT yesterday he had 7 or 8 shots with no goal, we won't have that many chances against the better teams. Maybe he should be told to pass it into the corners of the goal instead of blasting it.

I do like the way he commits opposing defenders with his surging runs.

Were you at the game yesterday?

He didn't play on the wing - played behind the striker (Rico). Plenty of pace, shots and free kicks won in the opposition half, and of course the penalty. All this resulted in us winning the game, without him yesterday we may not of done. He also broke up play numerous times before using his pace to get at them.

I wish fans would get off his back, and cheer / get behind him, appreciate the good things he does...on Saturday that was more than most.
He is certainly the most improved player and even if he loses concentration or is caught upfield, he regularly has the speed to get back and cover.
Although clearly not the finished article, he wouldn't be here if that was so and he was without a fault.

If all our players put the effort in like him and had his pace then......

anyway league tables don't lie ...

I am covinced that Hoskins will more than prove he worth, He is a live wire, trying his heart out, He will get his finishing sorted. On a lighter point Johnson signed him for Yeovil, but let him go because ''he was not good enough'' That statement must mean that is is a  very good player!!  Grin Grin

Good to see Grayson Perry helping out at The Cobblers today

It would appear that Wilko has applied for the Grimsby job.

Super Sam is the new Ricky Holmes picking up the ball and going at players. Goals will come as he scored a respectable 8 last season.
At the same age Holmes was at Chelmsford City.

Hoskins was the difference in the second half, their midfield and defence didn't know how to cope with him, i may be wrong but i thought 4 of their 6 bookings were all for fouls dealt out on Hoskins. Sometimes it's not how many goals you score, it's what you create for the rest of the team and over the last few games he's done that in bucket loads.

I don't recall Hoskins ever being classified a winger. The games I saw him playing wide earlier this season had him looking like he was running in deep sand against fullbacks. He ain't a winger.

Knew him and his brother Chris very well mate.. Lived at the top of our street..

Back to the football though...... We won... Nothing else matters.

Ashley was (Still is I guess) a great lad. Sadly I believe I broke his ankle (Accidentally) or at least badly injured it playing against Trinity for Thomas Becket. He'd probably thank me now though as it took his attention away from football and more in the direction of that bass geetah.  Tongue Grin

Doesn't score as a striker, 100% is not a winger. Playing that "No. 10" position suits him perfectly as his energy and work rate unsettles the opposition and creates chances in itself.
