In Ice Hockey, teams operate a +/- system, the keeps track of which players are on the ice when a goal is scored (you get a plus) and when a goal is conceded (you get a minus) This tends to keep track of your most valuable players. Obviously it has it's flaws, if for example a player is injured when you meet the league leaders and lose 5-0 or when a player missed a 5-0 win over a poor team. However, it sort of evens out. I got to wondering how the NTFC players are doing this season, it threw up the below results. Interesting to see Hoskins and Buchanan in the bottom two, but no surprises over the top 3. We will be a different team when we get Moloney and Zakuani back.

+3 (27/24) Moloney
+3 (25/22) Zakuani
+3 (25/22) O'Toole
+1 (22/21) McCourt
+0 (9/9) Phillips
-1 (1/2) Eardley
-2 (2/4) Potter
-3 (32/35) Smith
-3 (31/34 Taylor
-3 (29/32) Anderson
-4 (27/31) Diamond
-4 (17/21) Richards
-4 (4/8) Cornell
-4 (11/15) Beautyman
-5 (18/23) Nyatanga
-5 (1/6) Boateng
-6 (32/38) Revell
-6 (0/6) Wylde
-6 (0/6) McDonald
-7 (36/43) Buchanan
-8 (28/36) Hoskins

Players no longer with us
+0 (11/11) Hooper
+0 (10/10) Gorre)
-1 (0/1) D'Ath
-2 (0/2) Byrom

There were loads of points to be had in December and January. There was also a 3rd round cup spot to be had as well.

So teams have no right to get any points against sides higher up the table than them? You ought to let Walsall know about that.

I'm not going to bother trying to explain to you. In any case, you've taken this off topic.

I'd say that Buchs and Hoskins are in the bottom two because they have been virtual ever presents and we (as a team) aren't doing very well.

I will certainly not join in with the hyenas on here who have to hunt (you) in packs with snide remarks and whilst the above is fairly interesting do you feel that you might possibly be over thinking things?

In response though I would say that Mr McCourt would not make the bench let alone the starting 11 on recent performances. Maybe in the back of his head he is fearing aggravating his back/neck/shoulder injury from early on in the season. Maybe I am over thinking?

Take your point, but that's not how this works generally.

HaHa, it keeps them out of mischief, whatever floats their boats bless them.

I certainly wouldn't use this as a way of picking a team, we all know JJOT and McCourt doesn't work in the same team. But it's certainly interesting and gives a sign that thinks should hopefully improve when Moloney and Zakuani are back. Very surprised McCourt was so high, but I suppose he wasn't scarred by the Bristol Rovers game and he was also in the team when we were doing well at the start of the season.

I don't do ice hockey but I suspect it has a revolving door policy of who's on the ice and who's in the dug out at anyone time according to tactics etc. That's not how football operates, only three substitutions are allowed per game.
The two sports are totally incomparable.

That's a fair point CJ I suspect that '78 is making another point which is an alternative way of selecting players.....I think Wink

Not a lot wrong with the selection above - provided one or two raise their form to merit selection.

I know it is subjective(buzz word) Cool
