Much has been written about our captain at Walsall.

Yes his header seemed easier to score than miss and as for the penalty.......comical if not so drastically depressing, sending the superb travelling fans home soo disappointed.

But not much praise for his work rate and professional nouse in winning / earning numerous free kicks.
Personally think he is seemingly much fitter than of late and is leading the line well.
A true leader in every sense and yet gets little praise and even fewer MOM awards/points.

As for penalties...he is very predictable and even the ones scored have been eminently saveable= time for a change !  Suggestions?

Alex Revell, he's been taking them most of the season. While he's injured Keshi Anderson - he knows where the net is.

Matt Taylor has missed this season, John-Joe O'Toole could be a possible but his penalty against West Ham was like Rico's yesterday although he did take them for Bristol Rovers and was very successful I believe.

JJ has missed both penalties in shoot outs this season. He also missed against WBA.

If Keshi is on the pitch, maybe worth giving his the duty. I've never been convinced with Rico's pens, he always smashes them and statistically Im pretty sure he misses a fair few.

Never fancy Rico with pens but have full confidence in Revell. Don't know why - body language, history, confidence?

I'd give them to William's,  easily out most technical footballer,  so shouldn't have to much trouble in at least hitting the target.

Rico has a good track record of penalties for us, by the law of averages he was bound to miss one at some point. Think he does need to mix it up a bit though, the goalkeeper yesterday never dived as he was expecting the 'high straight down the middle' option Rico normally goes for

I think Rico has looked fantastic the last few games, much more like the Rico we are used to.

I'm glad we have Smith on the bench to give him a rest for the last 10-15 minutes if he looks tired though.

As for penalties, Keshi seems the obvious choice if it's not Rico.

Rico has been one of the best players this club has had in a long time. Superb work rate, prolific goalscorer, and a good captain. Quite often the best player on the pitch over the last 3 seasons he has played for us.

Smith scored a lot of pens for Swindon

I would have thought Taylor would be the obvious choice. He takes all the other set pieces so why not the most important one? Strikers are generally only awarded the job to get their goal tally up.

Well he didn't make a very good job of the one he took earlier in the season!

How about letting the hero steward from the Cov game take the next one awarded at home?

He's the most complete striker we've had (permanently) on our books this century. Will always remember his screamer at Hull nearly taking the net off. But on penalties he is a bit hit and miss.

Rico is a shadow of the player he was , but he came here because we offered a three year contract when very few others would . We are paying for the third year and the latter half of last year .
He does a job and is not a liability , but at the same time isn't much of a threat either .
He was actually one of the players I thought should have gone last year , but has been better than I thought he would be this season .
As for his penalties , they are unstoppable if on target . But hitting them hard and high every time runs the risk of ballooning them over . He's still our best option in my view .

He came here because he wanted another promotion on his CV before retiring.

Quite possibly one of the reasons ..... but I would say the three year contract was the biggest one ....
The same as JJOT .

All in all, hitting the target from 12 yards away should not be a problem for ANY professional footballer... but granted, I don't think Rico deserves as much criticism as he's receiving, he's more often than not reliable.

well that's the reason he gave for coming here and reading through this thread it seems that pretty much most think he's looking good this season so I'd say 3 seasons was a decent enough deal to offer. It's up this summer, remember.

Quite right, but it was a massive blow that miss; it is in the past now so hope he can make amends on Saturday. It was noticeable how quickly JE came out in support of Rico.

Sure I saw a stat somewhere that said about 80% of pens hit high actually miss.

Can't remember where or when so no claim to accuracy on it.
