Taylor's 50/60 yard pass later on in the second half over the head of the defender and onto Smiths foot was worth the entrance fee alone. As Boeteng tired so much in the final ten minutes Taylor was doing a good job of geeing him up even though he was obviously out on his feet too.
I thought Taylor played well last night. It's disappointing that a section of our fans seem impatient to get on his back for every little thing. I'll be glad to see this season over and us safe so we can hopefully go into next season with a fresh start and far less of the negativity from the dick heads.

I totally agree about Taylor and to call him a luxury player is absurd. He could sit in the centre circle for the whole game except the corners and free kicks and still be a greater attacking threat than the strikers.

I believe he is now on 11 assists for the season and 5 or 6 goals. Either way, he's responsible for around 1/3 of our goals this year

Yes, you said that last night. Do agree though, that to call him a luxury player is absurd...he's utter s***e!  Grin

I'm joking!

That will go down well with a few on here! But you are 100% right.

I just think he is more effective in a wide left position and less of a liability late in games

Liability? On 11 assists and 6 goals? Reading between the lines you would like him dropped!

I have changed my mind on this slightly of late, i was firmly in the Drop him camp. You cant really argue with the assists/goals record though, except that it says nothing about his defensive capabilities and his fitness. That is where he can be a liability in games IMO.

I don't think it helps that we play him as the midfield anchor right now either.
I also dont think think he has been managed correctly by either RP or JE. Everyone in the ground can see that he tires after 70 mins (he is not the only one, but is the worst one for it) and yet RP played him every minute of every game available, and JE left him on the pitch on Saturday when we had a comfortable lead and another game to play on tuesday.

I think it would be better for all involved if Taylor were utilised for 70 mintues in most games. I know he is a 'big name' but that alone should not be a reason that he plays every minute. He is in his mid 30's so his fitness should be managed as such

Taylor...

- He has contributed to 1/3 of our goals scored (16)
- How many has he contributed to our goals conceeded?

I dont know, but it certainly won't be as many as 16. Therefore he probably adds value to the team.

He is still frustrating as hell though and for an ex-premier league player, he gives the ball away an unprecidented amount of times - as much as/more than anyone else in the team. Was trying to work out if it's a touch of the Eion Jess (better than everyone else on the pitch making him look bad), but it's not, he just makes very poor decisions and plays some dreadful balls.

Shame we don't have a "special team" like in American Football where we can bring him on for Set Pieces only, along with John Gayle.

My view on Taylor hasn't changed since the first day of the season - he's by far the best set piece taker we have but he doesn't offer much from open play (which isn't to say he offers nothing at all, of course). He is capable of picking the occasional outstanding long range pass but we're probably talking about 1 in 15 or 20, with a higher ratio going astray.

That said, it would be difficult to justify dropping him given the volume of goals he's played a part in. I think we've maybe been spoiled in the past by the likes of Ian Taylor coming in to end their careers with us and have unrealistic expectations of what older, formerly top flight players can do.
