Cliff Holton is 25th on 54
It bothers me somewhat to have to agree with "Evers, aka Sat-Nav" that Holton was our best striker ever...... It was his goals per games ratio that would eclipse the others.Only 68 games for those 54 goals....a fantastic conversion rate of 4 goals every 5 games. I wish he had stopped here longer , and used to love his partnership with Pat Terry ( a real hard-case, who I am sure Terry Branston would have probably agreed, having been laid out cold twice when he played against us for Millwall !).

Please accept my apologies for having to grudgingly agree on Cliff Holton. Perhaps the best partner was Alec Ashworth possibly our best ever fwd duo? What on earth is AKA Sat Nav - suppose u r referring to late arrival on bus?

Yes, Evers, Undoubtedly our most potent strike force ever: Part of the magnificent Championship team of the 62/63 season.....well at least up to Christmas, by which time Cliff Holton had departed. Alec's haul of 25 league goals in 30 apps. probably unrepeatable and he chipped in with another goal in the cup games. Add to that Cliff's 14 in 21 and also scoring in the League Cup. Beat that

Richard Hill must have been close to the top 20. A decent return for a midfielder whose goals to games ratio must have been pretty good too.
I seem to recall Richard Hill scored 52 goals in 104 games, exactly a goal every 2 games. Not bad for a midfielder!

Thanks AP, very interesting.
I saw 8 of them I think.
I am a bit surprised that Bayo scored so many and Cliff Holton was not in the list, but he wasn't here that long.
Don Martin scored most of his goals in the top two divisions so they are "worth more" so to speak.
I still think that John Fairbrother was one of the best, he just had the knack of putting half chances away, a bit like Jermaine Defoe does now.
And don't forget Laurie Brown who wasn't here nearly long enough to get on the list but scored goals and half the time he was playing at centre half.
