Whatever - if we win the next 2 matches (fair chance) then we are nearly over the safety line. That is all that matters this season.
Exactly - What matters is getting to 51/52/53 points as quickly as possible - who cares how we do it and who we ebat to get there!

But is it really? If Sheffield Utd lose their next 4 and Coventry City win their next 4, who would you rather we faced next?
Neither of these.

What a massive contradiction as Oldham are bottom half!!! As a one off anything can happen, use a larger sample to get a better overall picture. I'm not sure if you're a little slow and genuinely need it explaining, or if you're just doing it for a wind up. I'll give you the benefit if the doubt that you do need it explaining.

I don't see a lot of marking going on, with our defending.

So having looked at the fixtures I have come to the following conclusion:
Cov and Chesterfield are down - even if they aren't down, I can't see them catching us.
Therefore we need 2 other teams to also finish below us... step forward Port Vale and Swindon. Assuming we avoid defeat against Vale next week, I believe that a total as low as 48 points will be enough to stay up this season (I believe 47 was enough last year).
It's nice to see this thread has gone quiet since the weekend... but the job isn't quite done yet!!! If we can win tomorrow that will take us to 49 points. Cov and Chesterfield won't be getting that many points. Given Swindon's next 4 fixtures I'm pretty sure they won't reach 49 either. Vale will do well to get 49 (especially if we beat them). Oldham also have a tough run-in and may struggle to reach 49. So although it won't be mathematically done for a few more weeks, a win tomorrow night may well turn out to be enough to secure our place in League 1 for a second season. Given some of the turmoil this season (from losing our Management Team and best player last summer to RP's difficult spell through the winter), if we can practically secure survival with 8 games to go it can only be seen as a success in my opinion.

If we beat Vale we should be OK. The following 5 games are tough then we have "Easier" games against Shrews, Bury and finally Gilly.
If Vale do beat us then we'll need to beat either Bolton, Poxford , Rochdale, Sheff U or Millwall.
How Feely predicts a win tomorrow and nerves will be put to rest.

Would love to see it happen!! Unfortunately they've got Coventry at home this weekend so thats almost a given three points! Interesting game coming up away at Port Vale though....and they still have to go to Swindon and face Gillingham at home, they also have a tough run in with Scunny, Southend, Sheff United and Walsall as thier last 4.

Big match tonight - port vale at home to Shrewsbury, I assume we would want a draw?

Or a Shrewsbury win. Based on the remaining fixtures I am very confident that the bottom 3 won't reach 50 points. Vale won't reach 50 points either if they lose tonight.

Hard to say I think. An away win maintains the (psychologically) huge gap between the bottom four and the rest. A home win properly drags Shrewsbury into it (potentially) A draw is a kind of mixture of the two, but I'm honestly not sure if it's "preferable" to the other two outcomes. From a selfish point of view I'd prefer Vale to stay up, I think it's a better away day than Shrewsbury and, being confident we will now survive, that's what I'm gonna be rooting for.

2-1 win for Vale tonight shows how valuable our win on Tuesday was.

Assuming Vale win one of their games in hand we would only be 6 points clear of the drop. Eight games to go anything can still happen for that last relegation place (the bottom 3 look gone). The goodthing is we're competing with 8 other clubs to avoid that last place and we have a decent goal difference. I'm thinking 52 points will be needed, so one more win. In 8 games to get it we shouldn't be worried, but I won't relax until we have.

Effectively 5 points clear if games in hand below us are won. So we still need that one more win. Let's get it quickly, against the best team in League Two next week.

Come on Cov... do us a favour and don't let Port Vale win this evening!!!
I'd prefer any potential pressure to be prevented before it even starts!
