A similar situation with Northants cricket in the T20 last year. They needed about 8 results to go against them over the course of the last week of the group stages and one by one they all came in and Northants didn't qualify for the quarter finals.

I remember prior to the MK game (penultimate fixture) that season, we were 10/1 to be relegated. We lost the last 2, every other team gained results and the rest is history!
Apologies, I misread the earlier post and assumed South Beds was talking about last season when mathematically we could go down for a few of the last games.

I don't know if this is remotely factual or not, but I often think it's better to be in the relegation zone (but not stranded!) than it is to be lower midtable come January. I can see both MK and Southend going down this season.
Although MK's stadium might be too big to get relegated?
Actually agree with this, a few sides in freefall where as we seen to be slowly but surely halting ours and bouncing upwards. Southend are in real trouble as they still have Brown in charge and he seems to have lost it totally. Pleasing to see MK down there.

To reach 51 points and pretty much nail down safety we need 22 more points from 18 games. Not exactly promotion form.
7 wins and 3 draws should see us home.

Yep and the last game was at Leeds where we were truly dreadful and seemed resigned to relegation from the first minute - forgettable stuff!

With no realistic chance of playoffs and a false perception of safety, I think a few teams decide to save costs and consolidate. Much like us in our last relegation season!

By this time we were relying on already in the play offs Millwall getting something from a dreadful Carlisle side, a draw there wouldve saved us but no! Millwall plays a load of kids to keep themselves fit for the playoffs and het smashed 3-0... Just for the record, the L1 play off final that season saw Sc***horpe twat Millwall.

our town is over twice the size of theirs but their ground is 50% bigger than ours. They have recently spent a few seasons in the championship. We strugle to survive in league 1.

People keep telling you that you defeat your own argument by making up "facts" and its so, so true !!!! Sixfields capacity 7750, Glanfield Park capacity 9088 which makes it 17%, NOT 50% bigger than ours and if you think that Glanford Park, with supporting pillars and no leg room is better than Sixfields then you are deluded.

That's why they plan for a new one... http://www.sc***horpetelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/sc***horpe-uniteds-new-stadium-built-111113 Original cost estimates 17/18 million. Now risen to 25 million. Hotel and other sundries to provide income year round. 4.9 million invested by the club, but not a sod of turf turned yet. Buckinghams awarded 18 million contract to build the stadium. Oops forgot to ensure the landowner was willing to sell. Looking for new site, access etc. Found new site need new planning permission. So basically still pie in the sky. Does this sound familiar? When it's built and at least 75% full average over a season and the sundries are paying for a championship team on the pitch and the backroom staff to match amd servicing the financing of the build costs, then come and use it as an example of a way forward.

Don't shoot the messenger, send an e-mail to S cunthorpes directors and tell them how stupid they are. Isn't that the advice dished out on here constantly? While you're at it you could also drop a line to KT as not to worry over land issues as it's all a waste of time. There are many here seem to be financial professionals down crying development as a waste of money, yet it appears all those with money and experience want to develop and expand as much as they can? Wimbledon, Sc***horpe, Brentford and now Chelsea, must be all brainless...

The only brainless ones are the ones that keep saying we don't need a bigger stadium because we don't sell out the one we've got.... Priceless.

I don't think there are too many saying we don't need a bigger stadium, but there are people who keep altering facts to support their argument. Beds saying that Sc*nthorpe's ground is "Over 50% bigger" than Sixfields, when in fact it's 17% bigger is just shooting yourself in the foot. There are lots of grounds that you can hold up as better than Sixfields, but there are also lots that are not as good, all this "Conference standard" stuff, to any one who has been to many grounds, just doesn't ring true. Also people who talk about Luton, Sc***horpe, Wimbledon new grounds, come back when the grounds are open and not just drawings, I've still got my "Cobblers to Brackmills" sticker !

I am not saying we don't need developement on and off the pitch and at no point have I said they are brainless, but that sort of scenario would bankrupt us without a sugar daddy to bank roll it.

So what about small sustainable developments to the areas we lack done in stages? Making us Self sufficient and not having to be totally reliant on those only interested in land deals above those of our clubs immediate requirements? This could be started tomorrow but ntfc long term is not on the agenda but long term they will stay. Cardoza took 10 years to make a move and the new regime is nearly 2 and half years deep, and nothing of substance to date.

Not to be too nitpicky but didn't we get 7798 against Man Utd. Making the 17% even lower Not that it matters to Beds he has it all worked out on a post, he doesn't need facts. I'm surprised Sc***horpe don't fill their ground as they have the capacity so I don't know why it's not used. Their average attendances over the last 3 years have been, 3670, 3907, 4536. Whilst ours have been 4599, 5279, 5965. Guess Sc***hopre's atmospheric ground doesn't appeal to the locals.

Really fascinated to understand what the stadium has to do with a thread tracking the developing relegation picture in L1?
