Special mention to Michael Brown for spending 90 minutes trying to intimidate the officials .... Just a sh1t Neil Warnock .... everything thats wrong with the modern game.
I stood directly behind our bench at Wimbledon. JE and Kerslake did exactly the same thing with the fourth official and the lino there. All teams do it. I agree 100% with Steve Riches, I don't like the diamond, we were very narrow again, and it appeared that the line up was simply trying to accommodate Keshi Anderson, who generally looks like a poor man's Kenji Gore. We seemed to revert to hoofball in the second half, and had zero width until Paul Anderson came on.

Well a very welcome home win but, the defending still needs work, We do leave ourselves wide open after we take a lead, this weakness must be sorted out, we will come up against better teams than Port Vave, Who will cash in on this, ie. Bolton, Sheffield Utd for example, I STILL see very little marking from us. This I can't understand. On brighter note well dune Buchs on hiss 100th game for us.

We have achieved much needed wins in the last 3 matches and another 3 points should see us over that safety line. Bolton will be tough but confidence in our side should be good and Revell may be ready to return to freshen up the attack. I thought a number of players looked leggy last night but especially Rico, O'Toole and Williams also looked a bit off the pace at times. I am struggling to see what Keshi Anderson provides and I think Paul Anderson can feel hard done by for warming the bench for a number of weeks. Nearly there but Saturday will be a severe test.

I agree with this - I think Saturday might be a chance to freshen things up a bit, Paul Anderson must have a chance as well as McCourt. I'm in two minds about Keshi - he was poor again last night but as he is a former Bolton player and they were so scathing about him I think he's got to play. Matty Taylor is also a Bolton legend so hopefully he's due another big game.

6 wins in 11 games under JE, so I can't criticise him too much, but he got the tactics rather wrong last night.
It looked like he'd decided to shoe-horn Keshi in to the team and this completely unsettled the shape of the side.
We've been looking so much more solid playing a more traditional 4-4-2 in the last few games, so going back to the diamond was definitely a retrograde step and I was amazed it took JE until after they equalised to change the shape after which we improved.
I think we won more because of Vale's inability to capitalise on our poor performance rather than our own good play.
Having said that, what a beauty of a winning goal from Taylor!

Keshi is not a " poor mans Gorre " . Utter tripe . Gorre was 100% useless and Keshi gets in good positions to score . I think he wants too many touches but he is a threat . It's not his fault he is being asked to play at the head of the diamond rather than chasing the through ball .

Your man Taylor again I am not Taylor's biggest fan but he gave 100% last night and tried hard to keep the tempo up . MOM for me although I do think he was jointly at fault for their goal ( again ) .

Why do we concede so soon after we score? We had this problem with Rob Page at the helm, It shouldn't be that hard to sort out. DO IT JE.

Just a few observations. Taylor is well worth his place in the squad. We won. And finally; I hope the club issue a statement very soon apologising to some of the miserable fcukers on here for not playing like Barcelona.

Except Hoskins also can't score ! Seriously though , it just shows you how players can survive on reputation . Keshi and Boateng come in from premier clubs with big reputations and wages but they are no better than say Hoskins or O'Toole respectively in my opinion .

do they have big reputations?! having never played for premier league clubs!? they are generally built up by the manager trying to loan them out, and the manager loaning them in - not always a genuinely earnt reputation.

It was a very poor performance; its ironic that in the last few days we have taken 6 points from 2 of our less impressive attacking displays of the season.
I thought that Port Vale were excellent in midfield, but lacked a cutting edge. For 77 minutes last night they looked the more likely winners…and then we finally sacrificed one of our all out attackers (K Anderson), replacing him with a proper midfielder. P Anderson looked lively soon after, we reverted to 4-4-2 and won the game.
I wanted McCourt to come on at half time (for K Anderson). Not because I thought Anderson was poor, just a case that our midfield/formation was making it too easy for Port Vale to go through. Time after time they eased their way into our defensive third, but their lack of quality in an attacking area saved us. A better team would have taken advantage for sure. For starters, its not often you see a team smash 3 (THREE) corners straight over to the other side, 2 of which resulted in goal kicks and 1 a throw in about 30 yards from the corner! Against Charlton and Wimbledon, we won the midfield battle. Last night we didn't, and that could and arguably should have been our downfall.
The difference in recent times though is that the team/squad is way way fitter (both physically AND mentally) than it was 2 months ago. I called our winner, literally 30 seconds before it happened. Honestly! I said to my older son that 'we are into the last 2 minutes now, Port Vale will start panicking because they are in the bottom 4 and close to getting a decent result for them..we will score'. So so much in football is phycology, the first person Id employ if I became a football manager would be a sports phycologist. Whether we've got one or not, Ive no idea but its plain to see that confidence and fitness have both returned and we are now a different side. We've now pulled off 4 very late goals, 3 to win matches. The other one (against Oldham) was cancelled out but we still netted a late goal even in that game.
We now travel to Bolton with pretty much zero pressure on the squad. All the pressure is on the home team…it will be VERY interesting to see how we get on. Pressure can work both ways of course. The next 8 games will show who we need to retain, it will show which players 'want it more' so to speak. They are the type we need to kick on next season. Quality wins you matches, determination and a strong mentality stops you losing them. Last season we had both, this season Id argue we've always had the quality to be successful but we've failed in other areas.

Oh...and you forgot to mention how well Nyatanga played. That diving headed clearance 2nd half saved a certain goal. I'll say it for you, well played Lewin.

Agreed. My mom of the match on Saturday as well and close to hit last night. He's playing very well at the moment.

I dont think Keshi Anderson is being given a fair crack of the whip he needs to be playing on the last defender and off a target man. Over the weeks I have been critical of Taylor but the last 3 games he has been excellent fair play to him- I for one didn't think I would see him matching strides with JJ Hooper in the second half in the right back position

Well said Drilling, quite a few players are performing better under JE - just look at Aaron Phillips as another example.
