As the season draws to its final furlong, our finishing position is becoming clearer. Automatic promotion (in case you still had some hope) is no longer mathematically possible following Bolton's win tonight, but with Coventry's win, avoiding last place is still a (small) possibility.
So, we WILL finish somewhere between 3rd and 24th.
To be updated.......
For all the smart arses that will tell me that there are still some teams that need to play each other that will affect positions, I don't doubt it, but I can only do simple maths.

I've said 60pts and 12th from early in the season, I'll stick to that.

So now, third place has eluded us, but last place remains a possibility on goal difference, with Coventry needing to make their current -27 better than our current -6. Possible if they win all their six remaining games and we lose all ours, but not likely.
So, we WILL finish somewhere between 4th and 24th.

The highest we can now finish is 6th (66 points).
The lowest we can now finish is 22nd (Chesterfield maximum possible points tally is 49, Coventry 50)

Following Rochdale's win tonight we can no longer finish higher than 9th.

If we were to finish 9th then would the overall opinion be one of that was a really good season or not? This would equal Stuart Grays performance in what was definitely a good season.
This year, although I have been realistic in my expectations about surviving first, I have been mostly frustrated. The combination of early season promise and then the Page debacle followed by the relative almost safety since JEs arrival has deflected from mission accomplished. The annoying thing is that the standard overall, whilst a step up, hasn't been all that. In my view the combination of missed penalties, late goals and unfortunate injuries has seen us stifled.
Big summer coming up for NTFC with the exit of too many loanees and the negotiations of the out of contract players.

I agree with zen master that league 1 this year hasn't been a big step up, pure speculation but I honestly believe had Wilder and Holmes stayed and we would have made the playoffs or just missed out.

I think maybe 19th. Or we could equally blame recent draws and losses.

No question in my mind that we would have been in the play-off picture if we'd kept Wilder etc - but imagine if we'd have somehow gone up again. No way we would survive in that division...huge difference in quality. I don't think consolidating in League One for this season (and maybe several more) does us any harm. Agree, though, that it hasn't been *that* much of a step up, next year might be tougher looking at who is likely to come into the division.
