Taylor looked burnt out at the end of the season which is not surprising given that he was an ever present in the side.  I think the issue with him is playing him in his right position which I say should be on wide left and not in front of the back four. His delivery is still excellent but with JJOT also not being the quickest JE is going to have to balance the remainder of his midfield with some pace and ability to get past players.

Hands tied with JED regarding Taylor as he had no other option but to play him as no one else good enough....

Not Taylors biggest fan but that pen v Wimbledon and winner against PV proved invaluable in the end...

Hopefully, if used sparingly next season, he can provide more quality

The reason Matt Taylor and Alex Revell faded during the season I think was being down to overplayed.

Revell in particular absolutely ran himself into the ground in the first 15-20 games, and then the injuries happened and he hasn't been able to get back up those levels since.

When he was fit and up to speed early on, we saw that he can get goals. Ditto with Matt Taylor - who was visibly exhausted in the last few games of the Rob Page tenure and has continued to play not far off 90 minutes in every game since then.

I still feel both can play a decent part next year, but they need to be used more sensibly, i.e not for 90 minutes week in week out.

And the players we bring in from now need to have pace and creativity. We have enough experience with these two and Richards.

Exactly - completely in line with the point I've also made a couple of times on this subject.

Surely we could have put together a midfield  in some games without the need for Taylor. McCourt isn't the greatest but he did ok at the start of the season when he was given a very specific role of sitting in front of the back four, winning the ball and giving it to the other midfielders. Surely he could have filled in a few times at the base of the diamond, particularly against stronger sides.

Also, if we'd played a flat 4 in midfield we could have gone something like ... Williams, O'Toole, Boateng, P.Anderson - it is not like we were pulling up trees as it was, using those rotation options 5+ times during JEDs time here wouldn't have hit us too hard, we might have even picked up a few more points here and there. Plus Taylor would have been fresher the times he did play.

I also think we had his role wrong - he should have played Left Mid in a or left side of a 3 / diamond - never at the base IMO
