I think some of these clauses do exist, I was chatting to my cousin at the weekend, he is the supporters trust member on the board of Grimsby Town. He was telling me that for Premier League club loans there is usually a clause that they will pay the players wages only if he plays. If he doesnt play one week you pay the wage, whereas if he does play they pay. What he was saying was that it usually based on percentages that is paid by parent club and loan club, so Premier league club will pay like 60% of his wage each week and if he doesn't play that may go down to 10% or something like that depending on the agreement you can get.
Ok, that all makes sense but I still don't think it translates to "he must play". Don't forget that if he plays he is likely to be keeping someone else out who has appearance / win bonuses so the difference financially in which player is picked is probably negligible

Anyway, if Matt Crooks doesn't sign today, after the speculation previously that today would be the day, do we start to panic that the deal has broken down?
I think I read that Scunny have now had a bid accepted for him so it could be held up by him speaking to them officially. It's always a bit of a game of poker isn't it, the time to panic is when it is too late and he signs for someone else, until then it could still happen I suppose

If they have had a bid accepted for him then I think he'll be off to Scunny.

Unless this "accepted bid" is the same link that got put in here last week that actually didn't state that they'd had a bid accepted then I'd say nothing has changed
Someone mentioned on here that there was due to be a signing announced today so I guess we'll see.

Genuinly don't get why people think he will pick them over us. Apart from a short loan spell there, does he have any huge alligiance to them? Can we not outbid them in terms of wages (which for most footballers is the reason for choosing one club over another)? As it stands are we not a more ambitious club? I can't think of any good reason why people are so concerned thathe will sign for Sc***horpe over us! Edit: This quote from Scunny manager Graham Alexander is all I can see and doesn't worry me at all: “I'm always hopeful,” said Alexander. “I've had a few conversations with Crooksy to be fair, and he likes everything about us, but he's got to weigh everything up. He has got other clubs that are interested in him, and we've put what we think is our best deal for him to come to us, but we have to agree it with Rangers as well. I'm hopeful, I wouldn't say I'm over-positive, but I know there is a will from all parties,” he added.

The fact that they finished 3rd last season and were one of the better sides in the division, and he was apart of that, their manager has already made it clear that he's been speaking to him this summer, surely they wouldn't be speaking if Crooks hadn't made some sort of sign that he was interested. Crooks is a Northern lad also so location wise it would be better for him. It's just my opinion and how I see it, I can't help but think that if he wanted to come here it'd have been done by now, if it's not announced today then I struggle to believe we'll sign him. I REALLY hope I'm proven wrong.

Why, because a couple of people on here think he will sign today? Alexander has already said he won't be dragged into a bidding war - do you think he will reject us hoping Sc***horpe come back in for him??

Because it's been almost a week since we had the bid accepted... it seems there is something holding it up Just my gut feeling.

People were saying the same thing about Matt Taylor. I assume it's just rationalisation for why a player you don't like is continuing to be picked in a team. "It must be because they're contractually obliged to be picked, it definitely can't be because someone else has a different judgement about their ability".
Anyway, if Matt Crooks doesn't sign today, after the speculation previously that today would be the day, do we start to panic that the deal has broken down?
Matt Taylor had to play if fit and not suspended.

In other news, seen a few people saying they wouldn't mind us going in for Marquis
Apparently he's set to sign a new deal at Donny.

We had our chance last summer, he made it clear he was very keen to sign for us. Rob Page took care of that.

As you seem in the know can you tell us what this looked like in his contract. Or more specifically what would have happened if he was left out? Also, as his extension was triggered do we assume that the same clause would exist now? We had our chance last summer, he made it clear he was very keen to sign for us.
Rob Page took care of that.
I agree with this. I guess it was a choice between Revell and Marquis last summer and Page went for Revell. It looks daft in hindsight but I'd imagine, looking back, it was seen as a more 50-50 decision at the time
